The upcoming, all-new Hyundai Elantra might have missed the 2016 Auto Expo but it has made an appearance – albeit under camouflage – in India. Like the Tucson SUV which was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo, the Elantra is expected to be launched this year.
It will rival cars like Volkswagen Jetta, Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla, and the recently updated Chevrolet Cruze. While it’s too soon to comment on final powertrain choices, the domestic market (Korea) for the car gets 1.6-liter petrol and diesel units, while a larger 2-liter engine is available in the US. Gearbox options, apart from the standard 6-speed manual, include a 6-speed conventional automatic and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic unit as well.
The car measure 4.61 m in length, 1.8 m in width, and 1.45 mm in height. In comparison the segment leader Toyota Corolla measures 4.62 m in length, 1.776 m in width, and 1.475 m in height. Both cars get an identical wheelbase length, at 2.7 m.
In terms of appearance, the new Elantra has been appreciated by critics abroad. Thus, like other cars, styling is going to be a key element when the car goes on sale in the country. And while handling hasn’t been one of Hyundai’s strong points, the car is said to be better than the current version.
