Hyundai India has just put out three sketches of the all-new i20 premium hatchback, a car that’s days away from launch. The all-new, third generation Hyundai i20 Elite will continue operating in the segment that also houses the likes of the Maruti Baleno, Tata Altroz, Honda Jazz and Toyota Glanza. The 2020 Hyundai i20 Elite has a sharply raked design and looks nothing like the model it replaces.
As the sketches reveal, the all-new i20 gets a sharply raked front bumper, narrow headlamps running LED projectors and a new grille that’s in line with Hyundai’s latest design philosophy. The sharp lines continue to the rear of the car, which gets a dual tone finish for the hatch lid and LED tail lamps.
On the inside, the car gets a totally revamped design. The steering wheel is new, and so is the dashboard layout that features a pop-up touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, and a band that runs all the way across its width.
The all-new Hyundai i20 Elite gets a slew of engine options in international markets, including a high performance 1.6 liter turbocharged petrol engine in the N-Line trim. For the Indian market, we expect Hyundai to offer the new i20 with three engine options: a 1.2 liter-4 cylinder naturally aspirated petrol (82 Bhp-115 Nm) mated to a five speed manual gearbox on the lower trims, a 1 liter-3 cylinder turbocharged petrol engine ( 118 Bhp-172 Nm) with 6 speed manual and 7 speed twin clutch automatic gearbox options, and a 1,5 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged diesel engine (98.6 Bhp-230 Nm) with a 6 speed manual gearbox.
While the Euro-spec all-new i20 gets a mild hybrid powertrain to supplement with 1 liter turbo petrol engine, it remains to be seen if a similar option is offered on the Indian version of the car. The outgoing i20 Elite is now a petrol-only hatchback.
The all-new i20, in typical Hyundai fashion, is likely to be feature-rich. From wireless charging and digital instrument cluster to an on-board air purifier and advanced safety technologies, the all-new Hyundai i20 could redefine the segment benchmark. We’ll not have to wait for too long to know more about the car given the fact that the launch is just around the corner, in time for Diwali festivities.
