Hyundai’s upcoming A-segment hatchback (AH2) that’ll don the famous Santro badge will be available for pre-booking by the 10th of October. The car, which is expected to be launched on October 23, is one of the most awaited cars of this festive season. The company will unveil the car on October 9 with pre-booking commencing from the next day itself. The pre-booking is scheduled to go on till October 22, which is one day shy of the expected launch date.
Codenamed AH2, the new car will be formally named upon its launch but it is almost sure now that it will sport the Santro badge, albeit probably with a suffix. Upon its launch, the car is touted to replace the ageing Eon and will be bigger and better than it. It’s now been made safer and will meet the upcoming stringent laws and emission norms.
The AH2 has been developed on Hyundai’s more rigid HA platform that also underpinned the i10. The now old Eon was based on the PA platform. The Santro is also expected to be loaded with features such as dual airbags, ABS and rear parking sensors, all of which could be made standard on this upcoming hatchback.
On the interiors front, the Santro will be plusher and will offer better quality interiors, up-market features like a touchscreen infotainment system and seats that will have enhanced bolstering along with improved side supports. As the car will sport a tall-boy design, there will be ample headroom and shoulder room on offer.
The new Santro is likely to feature a 1.1 litre petrol engine. To let you know, this is the same engine as the one which previously did duty on the discontinued i10. It will also be Hyundai’s first car in the country to come with an AMT transmission. How this new AMT helps in sales will only be known after the car is launched.
The Santro upon launching will lock horns with Maruti Suzuki’s Celerio and WagonR along with the Tata Tiago and also the Renault Kwid 1.0. Though nothing is confirmed as of now, expect the pricing to be in between the Rs. 3.5 lakh to Rs. 5.5 lakh bracket.
