All-new Hyundai Verna 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated; How is it to drive? [Video]

By Shantonil Nag

Ahead of its launch today, the all-new Hyundai Verna has been leaked in a YouTube video from Ayush Verma, which shows all the details of the new Verna inside-out. The Verna shown in the video looks like a car dispatched to an authorized dealer outlet ahead of its launch and is the top-spec SX(O) variant of the petrol-automatic version.

The new Verna driven by the YouTuber is the naturallu-aspirated variant. As per the video, the car offers a great acceleration and handles well. We will drive the new Verna later this week. Stay tuned as we drive and talk about the all-new Verna,

The exterior of the all-new Hyundai Verna looks just like how Hyundai has been teasing on its official social media channels. The new version looks drastically different from the third-generation model it has replaced and gets visually dramatic highlights like lower-positioned LED headlamps and a wide grille with gloss black inserts at the front. It also gets all-new machined alloy wheels and a heavily-revised set of sharp-looking tail lamps with an LED connecting bar running between them. There are a lot of sharp creases running on the bonnet and side profile of the car.

The cabin of the new Hyundai Verna is a huge departure from the previous-generation model, with the cabin now getting a widely-laid fully-digital cockpit behind the new two-spoke steering wheel. Finished in a theme of gloss black, this new cockpit houses two full-TFT screens, one each for a fully-digital instrument console and the infotainment screen, with the latter facing towards the driver’s side.

The lower centre console, which houses a dual-functioning touch-sensitive panel for auto AC and infotainment system, also faces towards the driver. The car retains the transmission lever from the Creta and gets more features like a sunroof, heated and ventilated front seats, wireless charger, leather upholstery and more. It also gets a full suite of ADAS features, which will hopefully be available only in the top-spec variants.

The variant of the Hyundai Verna shown in this video is the petrol-automatic version, which gets a 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine paired with a CVT gearbox. This engine is retained from the previous-generation Verna and is expected to claim similar performance figures – 115 PS of maximum power and 145 Nm of maximum torque.

In addition to the 1.5-litre petrol engine, which will be offered with 6-speed manual and CVT gearbox options, the new Verna will also come with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine. Like in the Alcazar, this new engine will be offered with a 7-speed DCT gearbox and claim 160 PS of power and 253 Nm.
