It’s pretty well known that Mahindra and Mahindra, the largest UV manufacturer in India, plans to launch as many as three all-new products in the coming months. While one of these will be a premium MPV, the other two will be SUVs that will be launched in the sub-4-meter and premium SUV segments, respectively. Well, the company’s new car onslaught will continue with the launch of all-new generations of the Scorpio, XUV500 and Thar. While it’s a bit early to speculate on the launch date of these vehicles, the company has already started the design and development processes of these SUVs.
Both the Scorpio and XUV500 are at the fag end of their product lifecycles. Moreover, the Thar, in its present form, does not meet the crash-safety regulations in several international markets. The new generation Thar, however, will meet all such regulations and will be sold in many markets across the globe. Recently, Rajan Wadhera, Executive Vice President, Mahindra, said, “We’ve already announced the investments. There will be an all-new XUV, all new Scorpio, all new Thar and all new platform which can be run for 10-15 years. After that time it is required that you get a new platform, we’ve already committed ourselves to new platform in all our brands.”
It’s being said that the all-new Mahindra Thar will share its platform with the next-gen Scorpio. The next-gen Scorpio, in turn, will be underpinned by a slightly modified version of a body-on-ladder platform from Ssangyong. Akin to the next-gen Thar, the new Scorpio and the new XUV500 will be sold in many global markets. These next-gen SUVs will meet the stricter safety standards in many international markets. Also, these vehicles will be available with a wide range of engine options, which will include turbocharged petrol, turbocharged diesel and even electric powertrains.
In addition, Mahindra and Mahindra has been working on a range of new-age petrol and diesel engines that will offer a good mix of outright power and fuel efficiency. The new family of engines comprises both petrol and diesel units. These engines have been developed with inputs from Ssangyong. Hence, you can safely expect world-class refinement and performance standards.
