Mahindra XUV700 was launched in the market recently and just like Thar, it quickly became popular among buyers. Other than XUV700, Mahindra had experimented with a luxury 7-seater SUV Alturas. Unfortunately, it was not well received among customers. Alturas G4 is actually a rebadged Ssangyong Rexton SUV which was available in the market. Mahindra might be thinking of discontinuing Alturas G4 as the demand for this SUV is very low. If that happens, XUV700 will become the flagship SUV from Mahindra. Here we have a video where Mahindra Alturas G4 and XUV700 is seen in a drag race.
The video has been uploaded by Aayush ssm on their YouTube channel. Multiple races were conducted in order to find a clear winner. Both the SUVs used in the video are diesel automatics. Vlogger drives Mahindra Alturas and the other YouTuber is in XUV700. The race starts and surprisingly, Alturas G4 had a quicker response and it instantly took the lead. It looked like Alturas might win the race but, at 90 kmph mark, XUV700 overtook Alturas and crossed the finish line.

The vlogger conducts one more round and in that round XUV700 crossed Alturas G4 at 85 kmph mark. Both the drivers exchange cars and now vlogger was driving XUV700. They line up the cars and then start racing. Unlike the first round, Mahindra XUV700 took the lead instantly leaving Alturas behind. In the first round, Mahindra Alturas might have got the advantage because the other driver had not launched the car properly.
In the second race of second round, things were looking slightly different. Alturas G4 managed to move off the line in a better way. However, it still could not win the race and XUV700 took the lead within seconds. There are couple of things that are working in favour of Mahindra XUV700. Both Alturas G4 and XUV700 SUVs are powered by a 2.2 litre turbocharged diesel engine. The difference between these engines is the power figures. Alturas generates 178 Bhp and 420 Nm of peak torque while mated to an automatic transmission.
Mahindra XUV700 on the other hand has a 2.2 litre turbocharged diesel engine that generates 182 Bhp and 450 Nm of peak torque in automatic version. XUV700 generated more power, torque and is also lighter when compared with Alturas G4. Mahindra Alturas G4 definitely quicker when you check who moves off the line first but in a drag race like this, that initial punch is not just enough.
That along with the weight of the SUV meant XUV700 had more chances of winning the race. If Alturas generated more power than XUV700, then it might have had a chance. Mahindra XUV700 is currently the most advanced SUV in its segment. It is the only SUV in the segment to get Advanced Driver Assistance System. It includes features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision warning, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure warning and so on. Unlike Alturas, XUV700 is available with both petrol and diesel engine options. Both petrol and diesel get manual and automatic transmission options.
