Maruti launched its MPV, the Ertiga in 2012. In the past 5 years, the vehicle has seen only one minor facelift in India, however the Indonesian market, where the car is popular has seen a few updates. An all-new Ertiga, the second generation model is going to be unveiled next year in Indonesia post which it will most likely be introduced in the Indian market as well.
Donny Saputra, the marketing head of Suzuki Indomobil confirmed to publications that the all-new vehicle has been planned for. The next generation model will be based on the HEARTECT platform, the same that the new Swift is based on. This will help it cut down on weight. In addition to the weight saving, it will make the MPV more fuel efficient. The Ertiga will most likely get an update when it comes to features as well. It will get a new dashboard, similar to what is on offer on the new Swift and Dzire. This means a new touch screen system with Apple Car play, Android Auto and Mirrorlink will be offered.
As far as engines are concerned, the new vehicle will have the same 1.3 liter diesel engine in the DDIS200 guise. As for the petrol engine, there is no clarity since the company is working on all-new 1.5 liter units, which will most probably replace the existing 1.4 liter K14 units.
If the new Dzire is anything to go by, Maruti can certainly make the Ertiga a plush and luxurious offering. Currently, the MPV market has two ends, one with the Ertiga and Lodgy and the other end with the Innova Crysta. While competition is not that high currently, Mahindra is working on the all-new U321, which is being benchmarked against the Innova Crysta.
Maruti is known to keep their model line up fresh by offering updates on a regular basis.
