All-new Maruti Suzuki Celerio AMT fuel efficiency tested [Video]

The all-new second-generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio is already here and is already making a rather tall claim right from the start – the claim of being the most fuel-efficient petrol-powered car in India. Being a product from Maruti Suzuki, this is quite claimable, as the carmaker has already made a lot of fuel-efficient cars in the past, which have created benchmarks in their respective segments when it comes to fuel economy figures.

How fuel-efficient the new Maruti Suzuki Celerio is in the real world? A YouTube video from the channel of Bunny Punia has helped to clear out the doubt pretty well. In the video, the driver can be seen driving the new Celerio in a mixed driving environment, that involves both in-city traffic situations and long highway stretches.

Before starting the drive for obtaining the real-world fuel efficiency, the driver set the trip meter to zero and drove for 25 kilometres within city peripherals. After that, the car was driven on a long highway stretch for around 70 kilometres to and fro. And finally, the car was driven for 25 odd kilometres again in the city traffic. In total, the car was driven for 120 km. It accounted for around 40 per cent of driving in city conditions and 60 per cent of driving in highway conditions.

How much fuel efficiency?

In this mixed driving cycle, the multi-information display of the new Maruti Suzuki Celerio read a fuel economy figure of 30.7 km. It is even more than the 26.68 km/l figure which Maruti Suzuki claims for the new Celerio. Now, it should be noted that the MID readings usually show an error of +/- 1-2 km/l. But even after factoring in that, the real-world fuel economy of the new Maruti Suzuki Celerio should be in the range of 28-29 km/l if your driving cycle has a balance of both in-city traffic and highways, as shown in the video here.

The new Maruti Suzuki Celerio gets a 1.0-litre three-cylinder K12C petrol engine, that makes 67 bhp of maximum power and 89 Nm of maximum torque. Thanks to a low kerb weight of around 800 kgs, the new Maruti Suzuki Celerio not only has an impressive power-to-weight ratio but also manages to achieve the high fuel efficiency claim in the real world as well.
