All-new Maruti Suzuki Swift to be unveiled at Auto Expo; Launch in early 2018

Maruti Suzuki has already imported the all-new Swift hatchback into India. The car will be unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo in February. A market launch will follow in early 2018, according to Autocar. The hatchback will be based on the same HEARTECT platform that is used by the Dzire compact sedan.

The new platform uses high strength steel to keep weight low. Due to this, the new Swift will weigh at least 50 kilos lesser than the version it replaces. This weight loss for the new model will make it peppier and also increase fuel efficiency. The all-new Swift is expected to be the most fuel efficient ever, just like the new Dzire.

The car will use the same engines as the current model but will add automated manual transmissions (AMT) to both the engines. The 1.2 liter K Series petrol engine makes 82 Bhp and 112 Nm, and the 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet turbocharged diesel engine makes 75 Bhp and 190 Nm. Both engines will get 5 speed manual transmissions as standard.

This is the first time that the new Swift will be offered with an automatic gearbox on both petrol and diesel versions. The car will also be more spacious than the version it replaces. However, overall size of the car will not change by much. In fact, it will get slightly shorter and will remain under 4 meters in length.

The new Swift will get ABS and Airbags as standard. We expect the body shell of the car to be stronger than the older version. These things may make the car stronger than before. A sportier variant of the Swift may also be introduced in India in due course of time. The Swift Sport is being considered by Maruti for the Indian market. It will feature a 140 Bhp turbocharged petrol engine displacing 1.4 liters. It will be the fastest Swift sold in India when launched here.
