Rolls Royce is a brand that is synonymous with opulence and luxury. It is the Phantom that marked the new start for the company, under the BMW brand. The company has now unveiled the all-new 8th generation Phantom and here is all there is to know about it.
Let’s start with what’s underneath. The Phantom is now built on an all-new aluminium spaceframe that has been designed by Rolls Royce engineers. With this, the vehicle is now 30% more rigid that the outgoing version. In extended wheelbase form, the vehicle is close to 20 feet long. Power comes from a 6.75 liter V12 which has now been heavily updated. The vehicle now produces 565 Bhp and a colossal 900 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to an 8-speed ZF unit which is satellite guided, which means that it will prepare the vehicle based on the road conditions ahead. 0-100 comes up in 5.3 seconds which is mightily fast for such a huge luxury barge.
In terms of technology, this one is the most advanced Rolls Royce ever. It now has a double-wishbone front axle and a five-link rear suspension which is aided by self leveling air suspension. It also has a camera technology which enables the vehicle to pre-adjust the stiffness based on the road conditions ahead. The car now also has 4 wheel steering, a first. The car now has more sound insulation, so that even lesser amount of sound travels inside the cabin. While you could earlier press a button on the inside to shut the doors, this can now be done with a swipe on the door handle from outside, something the company likes to call “The Embrace”.
One of the most unique features of the new Phantom has to be the new “Gallery”, which you can see across the length of the dashboard. It is a single piece of glass that can be highly customized. In front of the driver, the Gallery shows the instrument cluster, at the center there is the 12.3″ TFT screen which is retractable and the other side can have any design you like. Since a Rolls Royce in meant to be bespoke, you can go as wild as you want with this section of the dash.
