Tata has just launched a video teaser which confirms the launch date of the Safari. The much-awaited Safari SUV is going to launch on 22nd February 2021 as confirmed by the teaser. The video has been uploaded on Tata’s YouTube channel. The video does not show much, but it does say “Reclaim your life” and “22.02.2021”. The ‘Reclaim your life’ slogan has been used for Safari since it was launched. So, we know that the short clip is for Safari. Tata Motors will be revealing the prices of the Safari on 22nd Feb. We have already reviewed the Safari, which you can read or watch by clicking here.
Safari is offered only with a 2.0-litre Kyrotec diesel engine that we have seen on the Harrier. The engine produces 170 PS of max power and 350 Nm of peak torque. The engine is offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission and the power is transferred to the front wheels only. Tata is not offering a 4×4 or all-wheel-drive with the Safari.

The design of the Safari is quite similar to the Harrier. You get the same split-headlamp design where the upper slim strip is the LED unit which doubles-up as a turn indicator and the lower half is the main headlamp that comes with a projector setup. Where there is a difference is a front grille, the Safari gets a tri-arrow grille which is finished in chrome. This gives a more premium look to the Safari. On the side, we get the same alloy wheel design as the Harrier but they are of 18-inches instead of 17-inches like we have seen on Harrier.
The Safari does get the stepped roof, which is a throwback to the previous Safari designs. But it does serve the purpose of liberating more headroom for the third-row occupants. You would also be able to see the longer rear overhang which is has been done to accommodate the third-row and open up legroom for the occupants. The Safari is 80mm taller and 60mm longer than the Harrier so it does have a better road presence. Then there is the rear of the SUV, which has been redone entirely. It comes with sleek LED tail lamps and an upright tailgate.
Safari is offered as a 7-seater version across all the variants except you can get a 7-seater version with the top-end variant. The interior is finished in white colour for the higher variants and it also gets soft-touch dashboard and door pads. There are features like automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, auto-dimming interior rearview mirror, tyre pressure monitoring, touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The infotainment system comes connected to 4 speakers, 4 tweeters, 1 subwoofer and an amplifier. All of which are sourced from JBL. Tata is also offering iRA connected car technology and a huge panoramic sunroof. The Safari is offered in six variants, namely XE, XM, XT, XT+, XZ, and XZ+. The new flagship of Tata Motors will compete against the MG Hector Plus and the upcoming Mahindra XUV500.
