The Corolla has been on sale for close to three years now, in its current avatar. While it was the segment leader when it was introduced, you now have the new Elantra and the Octavia that are eating into the sales of the Corolla. To bring people back to the brand, Toyota will be launching the all-new Corolla Altis soon.
What is new?
The new Altis looks a lot more aggressivie than the outgoing one, which is also stylish to look at. It now has a new radiator grille, new bi-beam LED headlamps with LED DRLs, new bumper with a larger air intake, new alloy wheels and LED tail lamps. The car that was spotted was in an all-new brown colour, something that was not on offer previously.
On the inside, the car is exactly the same as the outgoing model. The only change that can be seen is to the AC vents on the side. The instrument cluster has been redesigned and now sports the one that all new Toyotas have. It has a 7″ touch screen system with navigation and bluetooth. The upholstery continues to be in the dual-tone black and beige scheme. It now gets reclining rear seats, a feature that is sure to provide comfort to the rear seat passengers. On the safety front, all variants will come with ABS, EBD and 3 airbags (dual front and driver knee airbag) as standard with the top of the line getting a total of 7 airbags.
Under the hood?
Toyota will not be making any changes under the hood of the Corolla. It will be powered by the same 1.8 liter petrol engine that produces 138 Bhp and 173 Nm. This engine comes with the option of either a manual transmission or a CVT. The diesel on the other hand is a 1.4 liter unit which produces 87 Bhp and 205 Nm. This is however mated to only a manual transmission.
The car is expected to have improved sound insulation and improved ride quality, to help raise the overall comfort in the vehicle.
The new Altis will come in a whole range of variants. Pricing:
Petrol: G: Rs 15.87 lakhs, G CVT: Rs 17.52 lakhs, GL: Rs 18.30 lakhs, VL CVT: Rs 19.91 lakhs.
Diesel: DG: Rs 17.36 lakhs, DGL: Rs 19.05 lakhs
