The fully camouflaged test mule of the Hycross has already been spotted multiple times. Codenamed 560B, the MPV will be based on a heavily localised version of Toyota’s Global TNGA-C architecture. The Japanese carmaker will give the rugged ladder frame chassis a miss in the interest of a lighter and agile monocoque construction. The monocoque chassis will ensure a better city ride as well as improved comfort for the passengers. In addition to this, the diesel engine will also be skipped and it will make way for an all-new 2.0-litre petrol engine paired to a dual motor strong hybrid system. Unlike its predecessor, the new combination will deliver power to the front wheels and provide a better low-end torque along with better fuel efficiency figures.
As the new MPV will be targeted towards urban car buyers, Toyota will surely load it with a host of modern tech features such as a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree parking camera, digital instrument cluster, ventilated seats, powered driver seat, electronic parking brake, connected car tech and Toyota Safety Suite amongst others.
In terms of appearance, the Hycross will sport a typical MPV-type exterior styling and it will continue with the same 6-7 seater layout options. Along with this, Hycross will also grow in size measuring around 4.7 meters in length, thereby leveraging more cabin space.
The current Innova Crysta will continue to sell alongside the new Hycross model. Having said that, the Crysta will most likely receive a minor update by the first half 2023. In terms of powertrain, the current Innova Crysta is powered by a 2.4-litre Turbo Diesel engine churning out 150 bhp of maximum power. It is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox with 343 Nm of peak torque while the 6-speed automatic gearbox version gets 360 Nm of peak torque. It also gets a 2.7 litre 166 bhp petrol engine, paired with a 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearbox. The price of the Toyota Innova Crysta starts from Rs. 18.9 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs. 26.86 lakh (ex-showroom).
