Anand Mahindra to gift custom made XUV700 SUV to Paralympic Gold Medalist Sumit Antil

Many automobile manufacturers are honouring the Olympians for their performance. Tata Motors, Renault and Mahindra have announced and gifted vehicles to Olympians. Now, Anand Mahindra has announced that they will be awarding a custom XUV700 to Sumit Antil. Sumit broke the world record thrice in five throws at Tokyo Paralympics. He won a gold medal for it.

Sumit is not the only one that will be getting an XUV700. Olympian Neeraj Chopra will also be getting an XUV700. Paralympian Avani Lekhara will also be getting the new SUV as she also got a gold medal in the Women’s 10m AR Standing SH1 Final. She also set a Paralympic record by scoring 249.6.

Anand Mahindra wrote on Twitter, “An awesome sporting feat. Without exception. His performance demands a XUV7OO. India now has TWO Golds in this ancient sport. @BosePratap Please design another Javelin edition of the XUV7OO that we will be privileged to gift this incredible sportsperson.”

Pratap Bose will be designing a custom Javelin Edition for Sumit. Neeraj Chopra is also expected to get the Javelin Edition of the XUV700. Interestingly, Mahindra has recently filed a trademark for Javelin name. It is still not known if the name will be used for the Javelin Edition of Mahindra will be using the name for a new SUV. Avani will also be getting a special XUV700 that will be specifically developed for differently-abled people.

The XUV700 is the latest SUV from the home-grown manufacturer. It is replacing the XUV500 in the line-up. It is based on a new W601 platform and uses a new set of engines that we have already seen on the new generation Thar.

Engine and gearbox

The XUV700 will be offered with a 2.0-litre mStallion petrol engine that is turbocharged and comes with direct injection. There is also a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. Both engines are incredibly refined and powerful. They make the XUV700 the most powerful SUV in the segment.

The petrol engine puts out 200 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 380 Nm. The diesel engine produces 185 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 450 Nm. The base variant gets a detuned diesel engine that puts out 155 PS of max power and a peak torque output of 360 Nm.

Both the engines are offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox that is sourced from Aisin. The diesel engine also gets four driving modes. There is Zip, Zap, Zoom and Custom. The top-end diesel variant will also get an all-wheel-drive system.
