Anand Mahindra to gift TUV300 compact SUV to Mirabai Chanu, the world weightlifting champion

Saikhom Mirabai Chanu has made India proud by becoming the world weightlifting champion. Anand Mahindra, the Chairman of the Mahindra group, just tweeted his congratulations to the weight lifter and also added that his company would gift her with a TUV300 compact SUV.

Here’s what he tweeted,

I think she deserves some rugged wheels. I am delighted to personally gift a tough TUV 300 to an even tougher personality

The 23 year-old weight lifter from Manipur won the gold medal in the 48 Kg class of the 2017 World Weightlifting Championships held in Anaheim, United States. She is the second woman weightlifter from India to bag a gold medal at the championship, after Karnam Malleswari achieved this feat in 1994 and 1995.

This is not the first time that Mr. Mahindra has gifted brand-new vehicles to champions who have done India proud at major sporting events. Recently, even badminton champion Kidambi Srikanth was gifted a TUV300 by Mr. Mahindra after he won the Australian Open. In the past, Mr. Mahindra has gifted Mahindra Thar off roaders to champion wrestler Sakshi Malik, badminton champ PV Sindhu, and gold-medallist Paralympian Mariappan Thangavelu.

The TUV300 is one of the two sub-4 meter compact SUVs that Mahindra sells in India. The other such SUV is the Nuvosport. The TUV300 is a diesel-only vehicle that is quite unique. It is the only body-on-ladder SUV in its class, which includes the Ford EcoSport, Maruti Vitara Brezza and the Tata Nexon.

The TUV300 is powered by a 3 cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine displacing 1.5 liters. The engine is available in 80 Bhp-230 Nm and 98.6 Bhp-240 Nm states of tune. It gets 5 speed manual and AMT options. It is rear wheel driven and offers seven seats, another class leading feature. Prices of the TUV start from Rs. 7.71 lakhs. A longer version of the TUV300, called the TUV300 Plus, will be launched in a few months.
