The all-new Aprilia SXR 160 scooter is powered by an air-cooled, single-cylinder engine. It gets three-valves and fuel injection system too. The 160.3cc engine produces a maximum power of 11 PS at 7,100 rpm and 11.6 Nm of peak torque.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr Diego Graffi, Chairman and Managing Director, Piaggio India said,

We are delighted to launch the much-anticipated premium scooter, Aprilia SXR 160 for all our distinguished customers in India. Designed in Italy, for India, the Aprilia SXR 160 is an epitome of great style, high performance and great comfort. Available at all dealerships across India, we believe that this scooter will set high standards in the Indian premium two-wheeler market and will be a testament of Piaggio’s upcoming plans for India.

The scooter comes loaded with features. To start with, the instrument cluster is all-digital. It gets a speedometer, tachometer, mileage indicator, average speed and top speed display. The cluster also shows digital fuel level indicator, engine malfunction indicator and ABS malfunction indicator among a host of other information. The customers can even choose an optional mobile connectivity accessory that connects the mobile phone to the scooter directly. It also displays the location of the scooter and the owner can raise an alarm through the mobile app in case of an emergency.

The scooter also offers a USB charging port and storage space for the mobile phone. Underseat storage space is also quite a lot and a full-size helmet can fit easily. The scooter offers a fuel tank capacity of 7-litres. It gets 12-inch MRF Zapper tyres. It is currently available in four colours – Red, Black, White and Blue. The scooters are reaching the dealerships across India and the deliveries should start soon too.

This Aprilia SXR 160 will compete with the likes of Suzuki Burgman Street in India. However, in a real sense, there is no real competitor of the scooter in the Indian market yet. With the launch of more powerful and bigger scooters in the market, we are sure that more manufacturers will join the bandwagon in the future. Currently, the Honda Activa is the best-selling scooter in India by a big margin. However, the popularity of the 125cc and more powerful scooters is increasing in India too.

It should be noted that India is the biggest consumer of two-wheelers in the world. Scooters take up a major portion in that. At the moment, Aprilia offers the SR 160 and SR 125 scooter models in India officially. When it comes to motorcycles, the Italian brand only offers premium and high-end sports bikes including the RSV4 1100, Tuono V4 and Tuono V4 RR. Aprilia plans to bring in more products to the Indian market in the future and showcased quite a few of them at the 2020 Auto Expo.
