Audi car driver fined for not wearing helmet

We have come across several instances where drivers or riders are issued fines for not following traffic rules. Most roads in India now have CCTV cameras installed, and the fines are issued through these cameras. While most of the time this system works fine, there are cases where it accidentally issues fines to the wrong person. Here we have one such instance from Uttar Pradesh, where an Audi driver was issued a fine of Rs 1,000 for driving the car without a helmet.

The video has been shared by NDTV on their Twitter profile. In this video, we see a man walking towards an Audi car with a helmet in his hand. Before getting into the driver’s seat, he wears the helmet. He is not participating in a rally or any race; however, it is because of the fine that he has received recently.

The man seen here in the video is Bahadur Singh Parihar. Recently, Mr. Parihar, who is also the president of the truckers’ union, received a message on his mobile number. The message said that a challan had been issued against his car.

When he opened the message, he was surprised to see the image attached to the challan. The challan was issued for not wearing a helmet.

The image attached to the challan was of a motorcycle and not his Audi car. The challan was issued by Jhansi traffic police, and the amount was Rs 1,000. The image attached was of a bike, and the category of the vehicle was mentioned as a motor car. The Audi car owner was surprised and confused at the same time.

He took the challan to the traffic police officials to confirm the same. However, the officials on duty told him that they wouldn’t be able to look into the matter at the moment as Lok Sabha elections were going on. They would only be able to check it after the elections. Mr. Parihar was not happy with the response and decided to play it safe.

He bought a helmet and is now driving the Audi car while wearing the helmet. He is wearing the helmet as a protest and also to avoid any more fines. Talking to NDTV, Mr. Parihar said, “I was challaned for driving my car without wearing a helmet. If I have to drive a car wearing a helmet… what can I do? I will have to wear a helmet while driving. The traffic police authorities have told me they will address the issue after the elections.”

This is not the first time we have come across an incident like this. At times, such errors happen due to some issue in the system. There are even times when bikes or cars use fake number plates to escape the cops or for some illegal activities. It needs to be investigated whether the bike seen in the image had the same number as the car and if it was just a clerical error.

A few years ago, traffic police had stopped a Maruti Swift driver for a very bizarre reason. He was not wearing a helmet while driving his car. As a mark of punishment, the traffic policeman handed him a challan of Rs 1,000, which the car driver was forced to comply with.
