Exciting news for all the automotive enthusiasts across the nation – the highly anticipated Auto Expo is making its return in 2023. The organizing body of the premier Indian auto show, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) recently announced the dates for the 2023 edition of the Auto Expo. The show will be held from 13th to 18th of January 2023 at the India Expo Mart, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
The biannual show which was last held in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic broke out, was also scheduled for 2022 however the event was deferred due to uncertainties surrounding the impact of the third wave of covid-19. During the announcement of the 2023 Auto Expo it was also announced that from next year onwards, the event will be held every odd year, in accordance with the calendar of the Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d’Automobiles (OICA), or the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers.
The official dates of the event were announced by the Society of Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) Director General Rajesh Menon. He said, “The Motor Show (Auto Expo) is confirmed from January 13-18, 2023, at India Expo Mart Greater Noida. January 11 will be the inaugural ceremony and for the media, special guests and for the media, special guests and dealers,”

2022 was the first year in the history of this revered automotive show that it was delayed. The organizers of the event during the August of last year announced that in view of the safety of exhibitors, visitors and all stakeholders involved and present at the Expo they would need a lead time of preferably a year for organising the Auto Expo. The decision at the time was made by SIAM due to the uncertainties around the development of COVID-19 in the coming months.
Conceived in 1985, the Auto Expo debuted in 1986 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The 9-day show was a path-breaking event and a window for technology transfers. The event was commenced to show how the Indian Automotive industry was absorbing new technologies and promoting indigenous R&D for adapting these technologies for the rugged Indian conditions.
Over the years, the show grew from strength to strength and by 2006, it had begun to see new launches, concept vehicles, trade dialogues and huge overseas participation. In 2008, it was accredited by Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d’Automobiles (OICA), cementing its reputation as one of the world’s most premier auto shows. Today, the Auto Expo is eagerly awaited by trade and fans alike, for the opportunities it affords for growth and a peek into the future.
As mentioned earlier, the 2023 event will be held at India Expo Mart, Greater Noida which is spread over 58 acres. The venue offers around 64,000 sq.m exhibition area and convention facilities, business lounges, VIP lounges, business centres, restaurants, food courts, parking areas, storage, and warehouse facilities. Exhibition halls will be wi-fi enabled, with centralized public address system, along with CCTV coverage.
