Bajaj will soon launch the 2019 Avenger series. Both the variants of Avenger, the 220 and the 180 will be soon launched to make them compliant with the upcoming safety norms in the Indian market. From 1st April 2019, it will be mandatory for all the two-wheelers powered by 125cc or more engine capacity to offer ABS as a mandatory feature. Bajaj will launch the upcoming Avenger with the standard single-channel ABS unit.
Many Bajaj dealerships across India have started receiving the updated models but official price is yet to be announced by Bajaj. As per the dealerships, the Bajaj Avenger 220 Cruise will be priced at Rs. 1.02 lakh, which is around Rs. 6,700 more expensive than the non-ABS version of the bike. The Avenger 180 ABS is expected to get a similar rise in the price. Bajaj will also launch the Avenger 220 Street ABS version of the bike. Many Bajaj dealerships have started taking unofficial bookings for the upcoming Avenger too.
Bajaj has released the teaser image of both the Avenger 180 and the Avenger 220 through social media platforms. Both the bikes are will not get any other update apart from the addition of the ABS. Both the models will continue to look identical to the current, non-ABS version of the Avenger and will offer the same engine and features. Bajaj may add a few new colour options to make the ABS version look different from the non-ABS version but that is highly unlikely.
The engines of both models will also remain untouched. The Avenger 180 is powered by 180cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that develops a maximum power of 15.5 Bhp at 8,500 rpm and a peak torque of 13.7 Nm at 6,500 rpm. It gets triple spark technology and a five-speed transmission. The Avenger 180 takes on the likes of Suzuki Intruder 155 but is the most affordable cruiser bike available in the Indian market. The Bajaj Avenger 220 is powered by an oil-cooled, single-cylinder, 220cc engine that develops a maximum power of 19 PS and a peak torque of 17.5 Nm. It gets a five-speed transmission. All of the mechanicals will remain untouched with the new update.
The Bajaj Avenger 180 is only available in the Street variant while the Avenger 220 is available in both Street and Cruise variants. The Street variant of the Avenger 220 gets a small visor on the headlamp, alloy wheels, all-black engine and exhaust. It also gets a different, and a sportier grab rail. It is mostly for the customers who want to primarily want to use the motorcycle inside the city limits. The Cruise variant of the Bajaj Avenger 220 gets a long visor, spoked rims, silver finish around the headlamp and silver finish on the engine and the chrome-platted exhaust muffler. The Cruise variant of the bike also gets a good support for the pillion.
