Bajaj Auto Limited is among the largest two-wheeler manufacturers of India. The company started off by importing and selling scooters in India and today, the manufacturer has unveiled its first-ever electric scooter in the country. Called the Chetak, this scooter marks the return of the iconic ‘Chetak’ nameplate after nearly 14 years. As mentioned earlier, the scooter has only been unveiled as of now and will be launched in January 2020 at a launch event in Pune. However, production of the Chetak electric scooter has been going on since the 25th of September. Let’s now check out this new age scooter from Bajaj in the official studio images.
Since the scooter has only been unveiled and not launched, its specifications and other details like pricing and availability will be revealed later. The images here show the modern design of the Chetak electric scooter. Bajaj has managed to keep the design fresh and trendy without being too edgy or radical. The scooter will be positioned as a premium product and will rivas the likes of the Ather and Okinawa electric scooters in the market.
The rear of the Chetak electric scooter features raised tire scoops design on both ends, something that is reminiscent of the Chetak scooters of old. It rides on 12-inch multispoke alloy wheels that look quite stylish and are shod on with tubeless tyres. The headlamp is an all-LED unit with a LED DRL circling around the boundry of the oval headlamp housing. This gives it a retro yet cool look. The front apron features two indicators on either side along with a vertically palced grille in the centre.
Bajaj will use an all-digital instrument console on the Chetak EV as seen in the image above. The manufacturer has gone for a retro-modern look with the Chetak EV and the same is visible all around the scooter, including the round-shaped instrument console. Instead of straight and angular design, the Chetak features a curvy and more relaxed design that is also easy on the eyes. Suspension duties are taken care of by a telescopic fork at the front and a single-sided suspension at the rear.
As of now, it is not known if it will be available in a single variant or there will be multiple variants. What is know is that the Bajaj Chetak EV will use an IP67 certified 4kW lithium-ion battery pack. It will get a BLDC electric motor but again the power rating has not been revealed. It is expected to get a fast-charging system in place, which will allow the users to quickly juice up the battery. The Chetak EV will feature two riding modes – Eco and Sport. The claimed range of the scooter is 85 km and 95 km in Sport and Eco modes respectively.
The Chetak EV will be offered in six different colours when launched. It will be manufactured in India and exported to various markets around the world. Expect the pricing of the new Bajaj Chetak EV to be around the Rs. 1 lakh price mark.
