Bajaj Auto Limited, which is known for some legendary two-wheelers in the Indian market started its journey by importing and selling scooters in India. The scooters from Bajaj including the likes of Priya and Chetak were the primary choice of many during the initial days. However, due to the shift in the choice, Bajaj started focussing on the bikes and stopped manufacturing the scooters. The Indian automobile giant, Bajaj has now revealed the Chetak, which has been launched in an all-new form.
Bajaj is yet to reveal the pricing and other specifications of the scooter. However, the manufacturer has announced that the production of the scooter has started since September 25. Details like pricing, variants and specifications will be revealed in the coming weeks.
The Chetak moniker makes a comeback to the Indian market a gap of 14 years! The all-new Chetak will take on the existing electric scooters in India like the Ather and Okinawa. However, it is not known if the product will offer connected services like the Ather in the Indian market.
The Chetak EV gets 12-inch multispoke alloy wheels with tubeless tyres. It also gets an all-digital instrument console. There is a telescopic fork in the front while a single-sided suspension takes care of the rear tyre. The headlamp gets an all-LED lamp and there is a LED DRL that goes around the boundary of the retro-looking oval headlamp. Bajaj has tried integrating the retro design of the Chetak with the modern design and it looks quite sleek. Even the turn indicators are all-LED. Apart from looking great, the LED lamps ensure that they consume less power, which in turn makes the scooter go for longer distances.
Since there are no specific details of the Chetak EV, it is not known if it will be available in a single variant or there will be multiple variants that will offer different features. The Bajaj Chetak EV gets IP67 lithium-ion battery pack. However, the capacity of the battery pack is not known. Also, the scooter gets BLDC electric motor but again the power rating has not been revealed. It is expected to get a fast-charging system in place, which will allow the users to quickly juice up the battery. Also, the scooter will be offered in six different colours.
The all-new Chetak will be manufactured in India and will be exported to various markets around the world. Bajaj is yet to reveal the exact date of the launch and also they are yet to mention an indicative price but the scooter is expected to get a price tag of around Rs 90,000.
