Bajaj Auto has launched its first electrically powered two-wheeler in the Indian market. The Chetak EV has been launched at a price of Rs 1 lakh. It will take on the likes of Ather 450 in the Indian market and the deliveries will start soon in the Indian market.
The all-new scooter is available in two variants. There is an Urbane version, which is priced at Rs 1 lakh and a Premium version, which carries a price tag of Rs 1.15 lakhs. There are not much difference between the models though. The premium version of the Bajaj Chetak EV gets additional metallic colour options, a tan coloured seat, metallic-coloured wheels and disc brake in the front wheel. The Urbane version gets drum brakes at both the wheels.
Bajaj will initially sell the Chetak EV in Pune and Bengaluru. Later, it will be available in several other metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. The brand will utilise the existing KTM dealership network of the brand to sell the electric scooters in the Indian market. Customers can book the scooters through the manufacturer’s official website. The booking price of the Chetak EV is Rs 2,000.
The Chetak EV is powered by a new 3.8 kW electric motor that generates a maximum of 4.2 kW. The 3.8 kW rating is the continuous rating of the electric motor. The power goes to the rear wheel of the scooter through a unique automatic transmission. Bajaj claims that the transmission offers Intuitive Kick Down mode that ensures an additional power. The Chetak EV can do 95 km in ECO model and 85 km in sport mode as per the claims.
It gets an IP67-rated waterproof Lithium-ion battery pack. There is a 3 year or 50,000 km warranty on the battery pack. Bajaj claims that the battery can be charged to 100% in 5 hours and about 25% in an hour. The cost of the charging unit is included in the value of the scooter and a trained technician will install it at designated places at home or office.
The Bajaj’s e-scooter gets feather-touch switchgear, full LED headlamp and a digital console. The scooter is made up of high-quality materials, which is why the price of the scooter is set to notch high than the rivals. Bajaj is offering one-year free data subscription with the Chetak that will allow the users to track the scooter and get updates via the dedicated mobile app available to the owners. The app can be used to check the charging status, battery status, location and also remaining battery level.
