The Indian bike-making giant Bajaj Auto, in partnership with the largest UK-owned motorcycle manufacturer Triumph Motorcycles, have finally launched one of its two offerings for the Indian market—the Bajaj Triumph Speed 400 at a starting price of Rs 2.33 lakh ex-showroom. The company stated that its twin motorcycle the Scrambler 400 X will be launched in October of this year. The company also announced that the pricing for Speed 400 will be limited to the first 10,000 customers in India. The Bajaj Triumph Speed 400 will directly compete against the KTM Duke 390 and the newly launched Harley Davidson X440 along with the segment champion Royal Enfield Meteor 350.
The Bajaj Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X feature stunning designs that blend the essence of Triumph’s heritage with modern aesthetics. Built on a hybrid spine/perimeter frame constructed from tubular steel, these bikes offer both strength and agility on the road. While the engine remains the same for both models, each bike boasts a dedicated chassis and suspension setup, ensuring optimal performance and handling.
Equipped with a range of advanced features, the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X promise to offer a captivating riding experience stated the company. The Speed 400 will come with 17-inch wheels on both ends, wrapped in premium and sporty Metzeler Sportec M9RR tires, while the Scrambler 400 X will feature a 19-inch front wheel and a 17-inch rear wheel, made of alloy and fitted with Metzeler Karoo Street tires. Both models share a similar suspension format, featuring a 43mm big-piston fork and a monoshock. However, the Scrambler offers slightly more suspension travel, providing enhanced off-road capabilities.
The Bajaj Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X come loaded with a host of modern features. Standard equipment includes all-LED lighting, ride-by-wire technology, switchable traction control, dual-channel ABS, an immobilizer, an assist clutch, and a convenient USB-C charging port. The semi-digital instrumentation cluster comprises a large analogue speedometer and a small LCD screen that displays essential information such as a digital tachometer, gear position indicator, trip data, and fuel gauge. The inclusion of a symbol for heated grips hints at the potential availability of this optional accessory.
Both the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X are equipped with the revolutionary TR-series engine, a brand-new 398cc single-cylinder powerplant developed by Triumph. This liquid-cooled engine features DOHC architecture and delivers an impressive output of 40hp at 8000rpm and 37.5Nm of torque at 6500rpm. With a 6-speed gearbox, these motorcycles offer smooth gear shifts and exhilarating performance. The engine’s refined machined finish and classic styling cues pay homage to Triumph’s larger modern classic models.
The Bajaj Triumph Speed 400 and Scrambler 400 X are attractively priced, starting at Rs XXX (ex-showroom, India), making them a compelling option in the 400cc segment. These motorcycles will be available at authorized Bajaj and Triumph showrooms across India.
