BEST value-for-money hatchbacks in India: From Maruti Swift to Renault Kwid

India is an extremely price-sensitive market. Car manufacturers do their best to bring out value-for-money products that can attract customers. Value-for-money cars are defined by the number of features and equipment they provide for the price tags they carry. Here are six value-for-money hatchbacks from the Indian market.

Renault Kwid

Priced between: Rs. 2.67 lakhs to Rs. 4.64 lakhs, ex-showroom, Delhi

Renault Kwid is the most successful model for the brand in India. The Kwid’s SUV-inspired looks and unique features like its touch-sensitive infotainment system make the Kwid a first-choice of many, in the segment. The Kwid also offers slightly bigger cabin space. It gets driver-side airbag as an option but there is no ABS even as a choice.

Renault also allows a customisation option on the Kwid that can lend an unique identity to the hatchback. The Kwid is powered by 799-cc and 1.0-litre engine options, and it also gets the AMT automatic transmission as an option. The hatchback returns a maximum of 24.04 km/l, which is as good as the segment leader.

Tata Tiago

Priced between: Rs. 3.35 lakhs to Rs. 6.0 lakhs, ex-showroom, Delhi

The Tata Tiago has emerged as an extremely successful car in its segment. The Tiago is one of the best-sellers in the segment and offers some interesting and unique features. The car comes with an Eco mode, which is a unique feature in the segment. It also gets the ConnectNext infotainment system that connects with your phone and shows the navigation on the infotainment system.

The Tiago also gets ABS and airbags. Tata has always been known for their value-for-money products and the Tiago is no different. The car is available with both petrol and diesel engine options, which is a rarity too, in the segment. The petrol variant of the car also gets AMT automatic option.

Maruti Swift

Priced between: Rs. 4.99 lakhs to Rs. 8.29 lakhs, ex-showroom, Delhi

Maruti launched the all-new Swift earlier this year in India. The all-new Swift has entered its third-generation stage now and it offers a long list of features and equipment when compared to competitors like Grand i10. The Swift comes with standard ABS and dual-front airbags across all the variants. It also gets petrol and diesel engine options and both get the automatic AMT option.

The Swift also offers features like touch-screen infotainment system, AC controls with integrated display and a large amount of cabin space. The all-new Swift also comes with LED projector headlamps, which is a unique feature in the segment.

Hyundai Elite i20

Priced between: Rs. 5.35 lakhs to Rs. 9.22 lakhs, ex-showroom, Delhi

Hyundai launched the updated Elite i20, in India, earlier this year. One of the most popular premium hatchbacks in India, the Elite i20 comes loaded with features. Even the base variant of the car comes loaded with features like dual airbags, ABS, central locking, power windows and more.

The premium hatchback also offers projector head lamps, dual-tone body, cooled glove box, sliding armrest and six airbags. The Elite i20 is powered by both the petrol and diesel engine options and the petrol option also offers CVT automatic transmission.

Baleno RS

Priced at Rs. 8.45 lakhs, ex-showroom, Delhi

The hot hatchback segment in India is finally picking up the pace and Maruti entered the segment with the Baleno RS. The top-of-the-line Baleno RS gets all the bells and whistles like Bi-Xenon projector lamps, touchscreen infotainment system, dual airbags and ABS. It also gets a powerful 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that generates a maximum of 101 Bhp and 150 Nm. It is less powerful when compared to Volkswagen Polo GT TSI and Abarth Punto but it offers a lot for the price, which makes it a value-for-money product.

Ford Freestyle

Priced between: Rs. 5.09 lakhs to Rs. 7.89 lakhs, ex-showroom, Delhi

This is the latest entrant in the hatchback-crossover segment and it is already topping the sales chart in the segment! The Ford Freestyle is based on the facelifted Figo, which will be launched later this year. The Freestyle gets some segment-leading features like floating SYNC3 enabled infotainment system, emergency calling services and Anti-Roll Protection (ARP). The system can save the car from any rollovers with up to 50 kg weight on the roof. The Freestyle is powered by an all-new 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine.
