The riding culture in India has changed over the years. We now have several international brands offering premium bikes at affordable prices, and this is actually encouraging many youngsters to buy these bikes. We have seen people go on bike rides to the mountains on their expensive and capable bikes. However, a young chap from Mangalore recently took his father on a road trip to Ladakh on his 25-year-old Splendor. Hero MotoCorp came across this and decided to honour the rider with a special Centennial Edition bike worth Rs 13 lakh.

The video has been shared by 69thewanderlust on his Instagram page. In this video, the vlogger talks about Prajwal Shenoy, who went viral on the internet for going on a bike trip from Mangalore to Ladakh with his father. You may ask what makes this trip so special, as we have seen many people travel with their families in the past.

The answer to that is the bike itself. Prajwal and his father went on the road trip on their 25-year-old Hero Splendor motorcycle. The Hero Splendor is an iconic motorcycle in the Indian market, and it is also the world's best-selling Indian motorcycle. The Splendor name has been around for 30 years, and it was—and still is—a commonly spotted bike in many semi-urban and rural areas.

Prajwal took his father on this trip, and when Hero MotoCorp came across this news, they decided to honour him. Unlike the usual congratulations and felicitations, he was gifted a brand new and limited edition Centennial Edition bike from Hero, which is worth Rs 13 lakh.

We can clearly see Prajwal and his family get emotional when they actually see the bike in person. He wouldn’t have thought in his wildest dreams that he would be the first person in the country—or in the world—to own the Hero Centennial Edition bike.

Centennial Edition

The Hero Centennial is a special edition motorcycle based on the Karizma XMR. Hero MotoCorp had announced that the Centennial commemorates the 101st birth anniversary of Dr. Brijmohan Lall Munjal.

As mentioned above, this is a special motorcycle and only 100 units of this bike will be made. Seventy-five out of these 100 units were actually put up for auction, and Hero managed to earn around Rs 8.6 crore.

The remaining 25 were said to be given to employees and customers through contests. It is probably one of these 25 units that Prajwal was recently gifted. As mentioned earlier, this bike is based on the Karizma XMR but is around 5.5 kg lighter than the regular XMR.

How did Hero manage to achieve this? Well, it gets carbon fibre body panels and an Akrapovič exhaust. It also has a hydroformed tube handlebar, a milled aluminium swingarm, 43mm upside-down forks with compression and rebound adjustability, and a fully adjustable, gas-charged monoshock from Wilbers, and so on.

The bike uses the same 210-cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. The exact power figures are not known, but it is expected to perform better than the regular XMR.
