KTM Enduro 390 Gets Changes For India: Differences Explained

KTM India is set to expand its popular 390 range with the addition of the new 390 Enduro R. It will launch on April 11, 2025. The motorcycle is already on sale in multiple global markets and is now finally reaching Indian shores as well. There is, however, a catch. The Austrian manufacturer has tweaked the motorcycle a little for India. Some things about the India-spec are different from what you see on the global motorcycle. In this article, we will discuss the same in detail.
For the uninformed, the 390 Enduro R is an off-road focussed motorcycle from KTM which is quite popular globally. It performs better than the 390 Adventure on terrains. In the Indian market, the prime rival of this motorcycle will be the Kawasaki KLX230.
To start with, the 390 Enduro R for India will share a lot of its underpinnings with the new 390 Adventure. It could sit below the Adventure, and above the Adventure X in terms of pricing.
Shorter Suspension Travel
The international 390 Enduro R features a WP Apex suspension setup with 230 mm of travel at both ends. But the Indian version will get a different setup with slightly reduced travel: 200 mm at the front and 205 mm at the rear. This setup will be identical to the one seen on the new 390 Adventure. The seat height and overall height will be manageable.
More Manageable Dimensions, But Still Off-Road Ready
Thanks to the reduced suspension travel, the seat height drops from 890 mm on the global model to 860 mm on the India-spec bike. The ground clearance is also lower, now standing at 253 mm instead of 272 mm.
The Enduro R, however, will be slightly taller than the 390 Adventure. That’s due to its 18-inch rear wheel paired with a chunkier, dual-purpose tyre. The front wheel is a 21-inch unit. Both wheels are spoke units, and not alloys. This setup increases the rolling circumference, which adds to its off-road presence.
Locally Sourced, Globally Trusted Tyres
While the tyre sizes are the same as the global model, India will get different, locally-sourced rubber. The Enduro R sold here will come with Mitas Enduro Trail+ semi-knobby tyres. Manufactured locally by Reise Moto, these are known worldwide for their solid off-road grip and performance.
The India-spec Enduro will be powered by the same engine as the global model. The 399cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine will produce 46hp and 39Nm of torque. These are the same output figures as the Duke and Adventure. The transmission will be a six-speed unit with slipper clutch.
The main frame and swingarm come from the new 390 Adventure. Braking is handled by a smaller 285mm front disc brake and the rear will have a 240mm rear brake disc- the setup mirrors that of the Adventure. The fuel tank will have a capacity of 9 litres and the weight will be 177 kilos (5-6kg lighter than the Adventure 390).
Save for these, the India-spec Enduro R will be the same as the one sold abroad. It will have a minimal yet purposeful bodywork and features that include ( but not limited to) a small TFT display.
With the launch of the Enduro R, the Austrian bikemaker's 390 portfolio for India will have five models- KTM Duke 390, Adventure X, Adventure 390, RC 390 and the Enduro R. The range continues to be quite popular in the Indian market, and the addition is expected to boost this further.
