TVS 300cc ADV Motorcycle Confirmed: To Use New RTX D4 Engine

On the sidelines of MotoSoul 4.0, sources at TVS Motors have confirmed that their next big launch will be an adventure motorcycle, in the 300cc segment – a space that has only the Yezdi Adventure for now. The new motorcycle will use the just-unveiled 300cc liquid cooled engine called the RTX D4.

The new engine isn’t a reverse inclined motor, like the other motor co-developed with BMW Motorrad, and that powers the likes of the Apache RR310 and the RTR 310. Instead, the new motor is a forward inclined motor, with a short stroke (78 mm bore and 62 mm stroke), rev-happy design.

Why has TVS come up with a new engine?

One. BMW Motorrad is in the process of discontinuing the 310 range of motorcycles, which will soon be replaced by the F450 range. In fact, BMW even showcased the first motorcycle on the new platform – the F450 GS – at EICMA 2024.

TVS Motors will build the BMW F 450 GS adventure motorcycle in India, transitioning from the G 310 platform.

TVS Motors was contracted to build the G310 range of motorcycles for BMW Motorrad. This contract will now extend to the F450 series, and it’s only logical that the 310cc engine range makes way for something new, but that something fully engineered end-to-end by TVS Motors.

Two. Emissions. Emission norms are getting tighter. The future is liquid cooled engines, even in the 150-200cc classes if TVS wants to successfully meet emission norms while managing to deliver performance.

TVS Motors wants a new engine family that will span multiple displacements, and the RTX D4 is a new big leap for the brand, similar to the leap it took from the TVS Fiero FX to the Apache line up nearly 20 years ago.

While the first motor from the RTX D4 range will displace 300cc, TVS Motors is putting together both smaller (downsized) and bigger (upsized) variants of this engine for use in a range of motorcycles including the Apache range.

Apache RTX ADV Will Be The First Motorcycle To Get This Engine

Sometime in 2025, the new 300cc liquid cooled RTX D4 motor will make its debut on the Apache RTX, an adventure motorcycle that will challenge the likes of the Yezdi Adventure and the Suzuki V-Storm 250.

The motor’s 34 Bhp-28 Nm outputs will make it a solid offering in its class. The engine will feature liquid cooling, fuel injection, downdraft intake, ride by wire, a DOHC head and dual cooling jackets for sustained high performance. A flat torque curve is another key attribute of this engine.

Coming to the Apache RTX – the first motorcycle that will feature this engine – it’s slated for a mid 2025 launch as TVS Motors’ first adventure motorcycle. It will be a flagship variant that’s expected to be pricier than the Apache RR 310 and RTR 310 models. Long travel suspension, a relaxed riding geometry, a strong chassis for on-off road use and mounting points for luggage are key expected bits.

Eventually, the new engine is likely to find its way into the Apache RR 310 and RTR 310, possibly with higher displacements. TVS Motors is developing bigger versions of this engine, and the next-gen range of Apache RR and RTR motorcycles are likely to get the higher displacement versions of this engine, with additional power and torque. A six speed manual gearbox with slipper clutch will be standard on the new engine.
