Prices for the BMW 5-series sedans start at Rs 38.90 lakh for the 523i

BMW today launched the latest 5 Series in India today at The Grand Hyatt Mumbai. The car was launched by Mr. Peter Kronschnabl, President, BMW India. The launch took place at a special BMW Pavilion which also had all the cars from BMW India’s lineup. The new BMW 5-Series would be available in four varients: 523i priced at Rs. 38.9 lakh, 535i priced at Rs. 58 lakh , 525d priced at Rs. 39.9 lakh and the 530d priced at Rs. 45.9 lakh ex-showroom respectively. The 523i, 525d and the 530d will be produced at the BMW Chennai plant from CKDs while the 535i would be a complete import (CBU).

Mr. Peter Kronschnabl said that the company had high expectations of the new 5-series cars launched in India. “The new BMW 5 Series is everything a BMW sedan is meant to be: aesthetic, dynamic and efficient,” he added.
The BMW 5-Series has been the flagship model from the German car-maker worldwide and has sold more than 3600 units in India since its launch in 2007.
Colours
The new BMW 5 Series will be available in Alpine White as metallic co. The rest of the colours are metallic: Black Sapphire, Havanna, Space Grey, Titanium Silver, Cashmere Silver, Deep Sea Blue, Sophisto Grey Brilliant Effect, Milano Beige and Imperial Blue Brilliant Effect.
The new BMW 5-series would come with Dakota leather upholstery as standard, and there is a choice of combinations to choose from: Oyster / Black, Black / Black, Vento Beige / Vento Beige, Oyster / Oyster dark and Cinnamon Brown / Black.
The latest, 6-th generation BMW 5-series car now has the longest wheelbase since its inception.
BMW 5-series cars: Engine and tech specs
The technical specifications also make the latest BMW 5-series one of the most powerful 5 series cars till date. With engine options like the world’s first straight six petrol engine with twin power turbo and high precession injections and valvetronice on the 535i (petrol) which produces 306hp and 400nm of torque at as low as 1200 rpm making it the most powerful 5 series to be seen here in India. The 523i (petrol)makes 204 hp and 250nm of torque, the 525d (diesel)makes 204 hp and 450nm of torque while the 530d (diesel)generates 245hp and has 540nm of torque under its belt.
Eight-speed automatic transmission comes standard with the BMW 523i and the BMW 525d. Eight Speed Sports Automatic transmission with shift paddles on the steering wheel is standard feature on the BMW 535i and the BMW 530d.
The steering wheel and the speedo-cluster were identical to that on the 7 series which is a good thing, also we were told that many features that are present only on the 7 series have now been incorporated on the latest 5 series.
Incidentally, this was the last media event that Mr Peter Kronschnabl presided over as President of BMW India. As reported earlier he would be joining as the President of BMW Russia in May, we at DWS wish him all the very best for his new venture.
