BMW teases i7 electric sedan

The German auto manufacturer BMW recently teased the brand’s forthcoming flagship sedan i7. The all-electric iteration of the 7 series will be making its debut on the 20th of April at the Beijing Auto Show.

BMW also announced that it will be debuting the next generation of its flagship luxury sedan – 7 Series alongside the i7 in the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition. The carmaker has claimed that the i7 will be capable of providing a range of more than 600 km in a single full charge.

“The new BMW 7 Series is absolutely trail-blazing in every respect. Like no other model, the BMW 7 Series stands for BMW’s innovative strength,” said Frank Weber, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG for Development. “The all-electric BMW i7 is also the most powerful BMW 7 Series. It combines the best driving experience with the ultimate digital experience. This makes it the ideal vehicle for forward-thinking, responsible decision-makers and avant-garde pioneers.” He added.

From the pictures released by BMW we can note that in the upcoming i7, the characteristic design elements of twin round headlights and BMW grille have been completely reinterpreted to achieve a modern and distinctive look. Some of the special design statements of the i7 are the upper light elements made of exclusive crystal glass and the illuminated contour of the kidney grille.

BMW has also provided a little insight into the cabin of the flagship all-electric sedan with the released pictures. The interior of the i7 features a curved display, along with a new type of light and function strip on the instrument panel and the doors that BMW refers to as an “Interaction Bar”. It is a part of the ambient lighting and also features integrated control buttons. The i7 will also get the latest generation of the company’s proprietary iDrive operating system along with new My Modes. The My Modes enable the driver to precisely customise the car’s driving characteristics and interior ambience. It will also feature the newly developed Sky Lounge panoramic glass which will come with LED light threads that can be individually adjusted.

Like every other 7 series, the i7 will also focus on the maximum amount of comfort to the rear passengers. The model will set a new entertainment standard for its passengers by offering a unique cinematic experience. The i7 will come equipped with the BMW Theatre Screen, which moves out of the roof liner, and is an ultra-wide 31-inch screen. The 32: 9 panoramic display format and 8K streaming resolution will provide the rear seat occupants with a diverse range of streaming offers.

As of yet the company has not shared any further details on the drivetrain of the imminent model but we believe that it will come equipped with a 120kWh battery pack. It is also expected that the top of the line i7 variant will come with a triple motor setup that could provide a power output of 750 PS.
