The Toyota Corolla is a car that people chose if they wanted a luxury sedan that was hassle free. It was a no-nonsense vehicle that was designed to cater to the back seat passenger, something that it did well. It was the highest selling vehicle in its segment for a really long time, however that began to change with the arrival of the new Elantra and the Octavia. While the new Altis was launched in 2014, it is all set to get a facelift and if reports are to be believed, bookings for the same are already underway.
What is new?
The major change to the Altis is the looks. The new vehicle looks a lot more aggressive and has a more edgy design theme to it, something the current vehicle was trying to acheive. It gets new LED headlamps, new LED light guides, a new bumper up front and a new grille too. The side profile remains the same except for the newly designed alloy wheels that are on offer in the international market. Details on the Indian car are yet to be known though. At the back, the car sports a new LED tail lamp cluster.
On the inside, the dashboard has received a redesign. The new instrument cluster has been borrowed from the Camry and there is a new design on the AC vents and the AC controls. The steering wheel is all-new as well.
The vehicle is expected to be powered by the same engines that currently do duty on the Corolla, which means the same 1.8 liter petrol engine making 138 Bhp and 173 Nm and the tiny 1.4 liter unit making 87 Bhp and 205 Nm will be on offer. While the petrol has the option of both an automatic and a manual transmission, the diesel has to make do with just a manual one.
When is it coming?
The new vehicle is expected to be launched by April of this year. Bookings of the same are already underway for those who want the first lot of cars. Dealers are taking bookings at a payment of Rs 50,000- Rs 1 lakh.
