Piaggio launches BS6 Vespa VXL 149 and SXL 149 in India

The scooter segment in India consist of various players. Most popular scooter in the country undoubtedly is the Honda Activa and other brands like TVS, Hero, Yamaha also have presence in this segment. We even have Piaggio Vespa who are known to sell premium automatic scooters in the market. They have a range of scooters that have a price tag of over a lakh. Piaggio India, like many other manufacturers, has now upgraded its scooters to meet the new emission norms, and has launched BS6 version of VXL 149 and SXL 149 in the market.

The VXL 149 and SXL 149 replace the VXL 150 and SXL 150 BS4 version. The VXL 149 scooter is now priced at Rs 1,22,664 and the SXL 149 is priced at Rs 1,26,650. These are one of the most expensive automatic scooters sold in Indian market. Both the scooters have elegant Italian design that differentiates them from other scooters in the market.

The scooters have the same design as before. The whole body has a round and curvy lines instead of a sharp character line. The VXL 149 has a signature Vespa design with round headlamps with round chrome plated rear view mirrors. In SXL 149, the front apron has a slightly different design with rectangular headlamps and rectangle chrome plated rear view mirrors.

The Vespa VXL 149 and the SXL 149 are powered by same set of engines. They are both powered by a BS6 compliant 149-cc, single cylinder, fuel injected engine that generates 10.32 Bhp of power and 10.6 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a CVT gearbox and get alloy wheels as standard. The scooter gets a ventilated disc at the front as well as ABS for better braking experience.

Piaggio Vespa scooters became popular in the country because of their retro or classic looks. Most of the scooters sold by the brand are quite expensive in comparison to the others in the market. Piaggio had also unveiled a maxi scooter SXR 160 at the Auto Expo earlier this year. The bookings for the same is likely to take place in the coming months and Piaggio is expected to launch somewhere around the festive season. There is a possibility that the launch might be pushed forward due to the current situation. The Vespa range of automatic scooters are among the most expensive scooters sold in India. They’re aimed at buyers looking for classy, retro styling and robust build quality. All Vespa scooters come with metal monocoque bodies that gives them a sturdy appeal.
