Renault Kiger: Quick Review
Design and features: The Renault Kiger’s exterior design is sleek, with clean lines and a bold front grille. The Kiger has a muscular stance, with flared wheel arches and a high ground clearance. The front of the car has Renault’s signature diamond-shaped grille, which is flanked by sharp LED headlights and daytime running lights. The car’s roof-line slopes down to the rear.
The interior of the Renault Kiger is spacious and comfortable. The cabin features a dual-tone dashboard with a large touchscreen infotainment system, which provides access to a range of features, including navigation, music, and climate control. The car’s instrument cluster is fully digital, providing a clear and easy-to-read display of key information.
Engine and performance: The Renault Kiger is available with two petrol engine options – a naturally aspirated 1.0-liter engine and a turbocharged 1.0-liter engine. The naturally aspirated engine produces 71 BHP and 96 Nm of torque, while the turbocharged engine delivers 98.63 BHP and 160 Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard, while the turbocharged engine also offers an optional CVT automatic transmission.
The naturally aspirated engine is smooth and refined, delivering decent power and torque for city driving. It provides good low-end grunt, making it easy to drive in stop-and-go traffic. The turbocharged engine is a step up in terms of performance. The engine feels peppy and responsive, with good acceleration and a strong mid-range. It is smooth and refined, with minimal turbo lag.
Ride and handling: The car feels nimble and it can easily navigate through tight city streets and winding roads. The suspension system of the Kiger is well-tuned and absorbs bumps and potholes with relative ease. Its high ground clearance also helps to smooth out rough roads.
The Kiger’s steering is light and precise, providing good feedback to the driver. The car’s brakes provide good stopping power and are easy to modulate. Besides, the Kiger also has a hill-start assist system. However, the ride tends to be a little firm. The Kiger feels stable at highway speeds, but road and engine noise can be heard in the cabin, especially as it gains speed. When turning corners, though, the Kiger is impressive and body roll is barely perceptible.
Safety: Among safety features, the Renault Kiger has dual front airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), brake assist, rear parking sensors, rearview camera, hill start assist, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.
Mileage: Depending upon the variant, the Renault Kiger’s mileage can range from 18.24 km/l to 20.5 km/l.
Concluding remarks: While the Renault Kiger delivers on almost all fronts its rivals do, its performance can feel somewhat limiting. But for budget buyers, it will not be lacking in terms of features and practicality if the purpose is primarily city driving. However, for travelling long distances, or for a more exciting driving experience, an upgraded variant might make more sense.
