BYD E6 Electric MPV with 520 kilometer range: What it drives like [Video]

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD (Build Your Dreams) has been present in Indian market for a very long time. They have electric buses and have offered other solutions for electric mobility. BYD last year launched their all-new electric MPV E6 in India. Just like other products, BYD is aiming to sell this electric MPV to fleet operators. The main advantage of BYD E6 is its range. It has a certified driving range of 520 kms. Here we have a video where vlogger shows what all features does the car offer and how does it feel to drive.

The video has been uploaded by Gagan Choudhary on his YouTube channel. Vlogger mentions that the owner of this car has told that the car was sold to him as a private vehicle. If so, it is probably the first BYD E6 in the country to get a private registration. The owner is also shown in the video. The owner mentions that he has to travel a lot as part of his business and he wanted an EV with a longer range. He used the car for a week before making up his mind to finally buy it.

The vlogger then shows the exterior design of the E6 MPV. He starts by showing the key fob. It gets a key fob which comes with a dedicated button to turn on the AC before you get into the car. It has a simple and elegant looking MPV like design. It looks massive especially in this Black shade. The car comes with projector headlamps, LED DRLs, 17 inch alloy wheels, LED tail lamps and so on. The front grille on the E6 is elegantly designed and does not look loud like other EVs.

The vlogger then opens the boot and reveals the massive boot. The BYD E6 may look like a 6-seater MPV but, it is actually a 5-seater MPV only. It has a massive boot which can actually accommodate a lot of things in it. The car comes with a extremely spacious cabin. The cabin is mostly black but looks simple and elegant. There is a tilt and telescopic steering wheel with controls mounted on it. The instrument cluster in analog with a digital MID in the centre. There is no leather wrap on the steering and it also misses out on one-touch roll down windows and electrically foldable ORVMs, auto-dimming IRVMs and so on.

The seats are wrapped in black leatherette upholstery but, vlogger felt that the seats do not offer ample amount of under thigh support. He then moves to the centre console where the touchscreen infotainment screen was placed. the screen can be rotated and the contents on the display adjust accordingly. There is an electric parking brake, rotary gear selector knob, buttons to control AC and other settings. Most of the setting can be controlled from the screen as well.

At the rear, there is a flat bench like seat for passenger with no armrest. There are multiple USB ports available both at the front and rear. Vlogger felt that BYD could have offered more AC vents at the rear, especially when they are aiming it at fleet operators. He then drives the E6 and was fairly surprised with the way it drives. He mentions that the car’s steering becomes a lot more responsive when in Sport mode. He was confident that the car can easily return a driving range of 350-450 kms on a single charge if driven sanely.

It is powered by a 71.7 kWh Blade Battery. The 70 kWh electric motor generates 180 Nm of torque and has a top speed of 130 kmph. BYD is offering cell warranty of 8 years or 5 lakh kms. The ex-showroom price of BYD E6 is around 30 lakh and the vlogger felt that it is a suitable car for those who are prioritising range over features.
