Watch India’s first Can-Am Spyder trike roll on the road: COSTLIER than 5 Honda Citys

Can-Am, the popular Canadian manufacturer of off-beat vehicles is known world-over for the Spyder trike. The Can-Am Spyder is a special looking reverse trike vehicle and is a rare sight on the roads. The video claims that this is the only Can-Am Spyder in India and it costs more than Rs 75 lakh with registration in India, making it much more expensive than a mid-size sedan like Honda City in India.

The Can-Am Spyder seen in the video was imported to India in 2013 and it seems like the vehicle was imported in a different colour and was re-painted later. There are not many spottings of it on the Indian roads though. This Can-Am Spyder is a regular showcase at various auto shows around the country as it has the power to be a major crowd-puller.

The video shot by Shobby Toticba shows the Can-Am Spyder reverse trike in its full glory on the roads of Mumbai. The vehicle can be seen riding with a group of superbikes and it has a massive look that can overshadow any other vehicle in the group. The Can-Am Spyder looks huge and can be compared with the Honda Gold Wing. It is a touring machine and gets huge seats with complete back support for the pillion rider. There are also storage compartments in the trike that can be used to keep luggage for the weekend. But does it prove to be a better touring option than a Honda City? Well, that depends on the kind of person you are.

The Can-Am Spyder is also loaded with a long list of features. Even though this is an old model, it gets features like variable suspension stiffness, heated/cooled seats, electrically adjustable windscreen and massive headlamps in the front. The instrument cluster itself gets two analogue dials with a small LCD display in the middle. The display shows various options and information about the vehicle. It gets a cruise control system, speakers with FM and iPod connectivity (newer models get Bluetooth). It gets 155 litres of lockable storage space that makes it ideal for long distance journeys.

The Can-Am Spyder is designed for long-distance touring and is extremely comfortable on the road. This is the RT model of the Spyder that comes powered by a 998cc, V-Twin, liquid-cooled engine with electronic fuel injection and electronic throttle control. It generates a maximum power of 100 Bhp and 108 Nm of peak torque. It gets a 5-speed manual transmission with a reverse gear. All the three wheels of the vehicle get 270mm Brembo brakes but the front wheel gets a 4-piston fixed calliper set-up while the rear wheels get single-piston floating calliper set-up.

In 2013, the Can-Am Spyder LT came with a price tag of $22,499 which translates into around Rs 16 lakh. With 150% import taxes, the price goes to around Rs 45 lakh plus the registration cost easily take the overall cost to Rs 50 lakh, which is five times more expensive than the base version of Honda City!
