The current government is working extensively on expanding the road network by building new expressways and expanding the existing national highways. One such expressway currently under construction is the Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway. A small section of the expressway is open to the public, but it appears that people are not enjoying the route as much as the authorities intended. Here, we have a video shared by a road user, who highlighted the poor condition of the expressway.
The Amritsar – Jamnagar Expressway
This Expressway will take you to death instead of Jamnagar. This is the Condition of The New Expressway. The Quality of The Road Is So bad that it broke within 2 months. I had several literal Near Death Experience because the limit is 100 pic.twitter.com/WvNjV0SHv9— Aayush Maan (@AayushMaan999) September 3, 2024
The video was shared by an X user, Aayush Maan, on his profile. He posted the video with the caption: “The Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway. This Expressway will take you to death instead of Jamnagar. This is the condition of the new expressway. The quality of the road is so bad that it broke within two months. I had several literal near-death experiences because the speed limit is 100 km/h.”
The poor condition of the road is very evident in the video. It shows several large potholes and craters in the middle of the road. What makes this even more dangerous is the fact that it is on an expressway. Most expressways are designed for high-speed travel, allowing drivers to reach their destination more quickly.
The speed limit on this expressway is 100 km/h, and encountering such large craters at high speeds would definitely lead to accidents. The Amritsar-Jamnagar Expressway is not fully open; only a section is accessible, and the video is likely from that particular stretch.
Regarding the video, it seems the potholes appeared after heavy rains in the area. Many parts of North India have been experiencing heavy rainfall, which likely caused the soil beneath the tarmac to erode, forming large craters. The comments section of the video is filled with criticism of the government and the authorities.
Before anyone else could comment on the video, the person who posted it wrote: “And the irony is that they are charging tolls for this road. At the very least, they should inform us about the potholes because the speed limit is 100, and it’s impossible to survive hitting these potholes at that speed.”
Some social media users commented, “Unfortunately, the focus is only on building new roads at lightning speed to create records, but minimal focus is on quality, accountability, and maintenance,” and “The same situation exists on the newly inaugurated Vadodara-Bharuch section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.” Another wrote, “Gadkari ji, which cup does he drink tea from that allows cars to travel at 120 km/h on the expressway without spilling a drop? Forget highways, I need that cup.”
A few days ago, another video surfaced from a different expressway, the popular Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. All these expressways are built with investments in the thousands of crores, yet it seems the money was not well spent. In a recent video that surfaced online, we see cars and SUVs going airborne after hitting a particular section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
A small portion of the road had caved in, creating a ramp-like effect that caused cars to go airborne when they hit the section. A car traveling at high speed would not notice this minor dip in the road, but that dip could easily cause the driver to lose control and crash into the railing or another vehicle.
Gadkari fines contractor Rs. 50 Lakh
The ministry of highways and road transport (MoRTH), headed by Nitin Gadkari, has just issued a hefty Rs. 50 lakh fine on the contractor who built the broken section of the newly constructed Amritsar-Jamnagar expressway. This is the second time that such a fine has been levied in the last one week.
