Cricketer Kevin Pietersen's Scorpio Pick-Up Truck Built For A Special Purpose: Anand Mahindra Appreciates

The billionaire chairman of Mahindra Group, Anand, has recently shared an important image on X via his personal handle. In this image, the popular former cricketer from England, Kevin Peterson, was seen shaking hands with Mahindra South Africa in front of a Mahindra Scorpio Pik Up Safari vehicle. This image represents the joining of hands of Mahindra South Africa and SORAi, which stands for Save Our Rhinos Africa/India, a conservation initiative led by the cricketer.
The post showing the handshake between the SORAi Initiative and Mahindra South Africa has been shared on X. It has been shared with a caption stating, “Rhinos have a new teammate. @KP24 is taking the fight to poachers and now he’s rolling in a Mahindra built for the wild. Happy to support the good work you’re doing, KP. From smashing sixes to saving rhinos, you don’t ever miss your target…”
Former English cricketer Kevin Peterson was handed over the keys to the Mahindra Scorpio Pik Up, which has been fully converted into a Safari vehicle. This vehicle will be used by the SORAi Initiative to ensure that rhino poaching comes to an end. For those who may not be aware, over the years, rhino poaching in South Africa has increased exponentially.
These innocent animals are killed in their habitat to extract horns and other body parts, as they are very valuable in the market. The poaching of these wild rhinos is illegal, and the trade of their horns is also illegal. So, in order to stop poachers, Kevin Peterson is working through his SORAi Initiative.
Now, with the partnership with Mahindra South Africa, the SORAi Initiative will be able to get more Mahindra Scorpio Pik Up Safari vehicles. Mahindra South Africa is the subsidiary of Mahindra Group, which sells vehicles in the South African market. In 2024–25, the company sold 15,088 units. Its best month was in March 2025, when it sold 2,253 units.
As seen in the images, the Mahindra Pik Up single cab Safari Edition has been designed to accommodate more people than the standard vehicle. It gets a custom raised canvas roof canopy, open-air rear seating for clear viewing, a roll cage for the safety of occupants, and a reinforced suspension to make sure that the vehicle can sustain the added weight of all the modifications and provide comfort while off-roading.
Apart from these, the Safari Edition single cab Pik Up also comes equipped with all-terrain tyres, matte green paint, an optional snorkel for water crossings, utility racks, and storage boxes for equipment like binoculars, tools, and medical kits. Lastly, it also gets a bull bar for added protection on the front with additional spotlights and flood lamps.
Like most of the Mahindra SUVs, the Pik Up Safari Edition also comes equipped with a 2.2-litre mHawk turbo diesel engine, which makes 140 PS of power and 320 Nm of torque. As for the transmission, it comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and also gets a 4X4 system with low-range gear and transfer case. This ensures that the vehicle can be driven on and off the road during safaris.
