Italian superbike brand Aprilia launched the RS 457 sport bike in the market in 2023. The motorcycle gained popularity almost immediately despite steep pricing. Since its launch, we have come across several ownership reviews of the bike online. While some are praising the brand and motorcycle, there are others who didn’t have a good experience. Here, we have one such video where the engine of an Aprilia RS 457 blew out while riding on a highway.

Watch on YouTube

The video has been shared by Farhan Khan on his YouTube channel. In this video, the vlogger, along with his friends, is on a bike ride. They have opted for a highway to experience the bike. The group in which the vlogger was riding had two Aprilia RS 457s. Both these bikes faced issues recently and were taken to the workshop. One of them was facing power loss, and the other had some other issue.

The bike with the power loss issue was inspected, and the service center suspected that it was happening due to a problem with the clutch. The clutch assembly of the bike was replaced, and after getting the bikes back, the vlogger rode both motorcycles and found that the bike with the replaced clutch assembly still had the issue.

The biker was riding on the highway at high speed—we see him touch the 120–150 kmph mark on the highway—but it was not pulling above that. To confirm the same, he even rode the other Aprilia, and the difference was too evident.

After this, the rider asked the other RS 457 rider to join him for a drag race with a rolling start. They conducted the race in multiple rounds and different gears. In all the rounds, the bike with the suspected clutch issue was not performing well.

It was not just unable to keep up with the other Aprilia, but a KTM 390 was also overtaking it without any issue. Towards the end of the video, the vlogger swaps the bike with the other Aprilia, and they conduct the race again. During this round, the Aprilia starts showing signs of power loss, and it was not picking up speed.

When the rider was about to come to a stop, he heard a loud noise from the engine. In the ORVM, we can see smoke coming out from the exhaust. It was evident from the sound and video that the engine of the bike blew out in the middle of the ride.

The vlogger was disappointed with the bike, and he even mentions that he really wants the bike to do well in the market. He mentions that the Aprilia biker group is not ready to hear negative comments about the bike, and there are fanboys who feel that the vlogger and his friends are creating issues for social media fame.

The biker and his friends were forced to push the Aprilia on the highway and took it to a service road so that they could arrange a flatbed. The bike was not in working condition at all.

From what we have heard so far, it looks like the Aprilia RS 457 does have serious issues with the engine. It is not a motorcycle that we would call reliable—at least for now. This is not the first time we have come across an Aprilia owner complaining about the motorcycle. There was even a customer who sold his RS457 because of all the issues he was facing.

The customer has every right to complain, especially when he has spent over ₹4 lakh on a motorcycle. We really hope that the brand addresses these issues soon and initiates a recall to inspect the engine and motorcycles in a detailed manner to find the root cause. This would be something that the customers who have shown trust in the brand would appreciate.

Note

In this video, we see the vlogger riding the Aprilia RS 457 at speeds of 150 kmph. He also rides a BMW S1000 XR at around 250 kmph. All this was done on a public road. We do not recommend anyone attempt such stunts.

The rider was probably experienced with superbikes, but still, we do not recommend you try such acts, as it is extremely dangerous—especially on Indian roads, where cattle, dogs, bikes, or even pedestrians can come in front of your bike out of nowhere.
