Volkswagen Virtus GT Beats Audi A4 In A Drag Race [Video]

100 bhp from a car in the mass segment is now a common thing. It was once considered a figure that only performance cars generated. However, with technology becoming more affordable and rising competition, manufacturers have started offering performance and features even in the affordable segment. Here we have one such video where a Volkswagen Virtus 1.5 GT and an Audi A4 luxury sedan are seen in a drag race. Many may assume that the Audi might have won the race, but that was not the case here.
The video has been shared by Instagram user Atharv Gupta on his Instagram page. The vlogger and his friends actually race against each other in their cars. The vlogger is in the Volkswagen Virtus GT, while his friend is in an Audi A4 luxury sedan.
Talking about the specs, the Volkswagen Virtus GT seen here in the video is powered by a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that generates 150 PS and 250 Nm of peak torque. The car seen here is the DSG version.
The Audi A4 seen here is the 30 TFSI version, which uses a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This engine is also mated to a DSG transmission. It generates 148 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. On paper, both these sedans generate similar power and torque figures.
Both these cars are lined up for the race and they start. In this short video, we see that both the Audi A4 and Virtus GT move off the start line almost at the same time. As soon as the race starts, the Virtus takes the lead and keeps on building it. The Audi A4 sedan driver is pushing the car hard, but it is of no use. The Volkswagen Virtus GT was easily doing over 100 kmph, and the Audi A4 couldn’t keep up with it despite generating a similar amount of power and torque.
There are several reasons why we feel the Audi couldn’t win or keep up with the Virtus. One of them is the weight. The Audi A4 is a luxury sedan and is heavier than the Volkswagen Virtus. A heavier car means the engine has to work harder to achieve higher speeds. The weight of the car ensures it takes more time to achieve triple-digit speeds.
Apart from the weight, the age of the car is also a factor here. We checked the registration number of the Audi A4 and found that the sedan is a 2016 model, which means it is almost 9 years old now. With age, the performance of the engine also deteriorates.
When compared to the Audi, the Virtus GT is still a new car and would perform better than the Audi any day. It also comes down to whether the owner of the car has taken good care of it or not. The Audi A4 is a luxury car and maintaining it is often extremely expensive.
People often delay maintenance or take their cars to independent workshops to avoid huge bills from authorised service centres. Apart from all these, condition of the tyres, driver's experience were the other factors that would also affect the results.
They were probably racing on a closed road with no traffic. We would never recommend anyone to do such stunts on public roads, as it is illegal and dangerous.
