A lot of times, parents or other guardians across the world leave their children locked inside the car in a car park. They say that they'll come back in 5 minutes and often lock the vehicle with kids inside and windows rolled up, without the air conditioning system turned on. However, sometimes this seemingly small thing can become dangerous and even fatal for kids. Recently, a case of one such negligence has been reported from Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh, where an uncle left two kids inside his Toyota Innova, which resulted in the kids running out of breath.

As mentioned, this particular case has been reported from Tirumala, Andhra Pradesh, where two young children—Bhanu, aged 7, and Neela, aged 4—were left inside a Toyota Innova. What happened was that their parental uncle, Gangayya, accidentally locked the car and then walked away. No windows of the car were rolled down, and also the air conditioning system was not turned on.

Along with Gangayya, the mother of these children—Sumalatha—was also not near the vehicle. Reportedly, she was towards a temple on foot when this incident took place. As a result of this accidental negligence, both Bhanu and Neela were gasping for air while they were stuck inside the Innova MPV. Both of them could not properly breathe and were panicking.

Who rescued these kids?

When there was no one near the vehicle, a few local taxi drivers saw these two kids struggling to breathe inside this vehicle. As a result, they quickly called and informed the Tirumala Traffic Police, and without any delay, the police authorities responded to the call. It was reported that, with the help of these taxi drivers, the Traffic Police personnel broke a window of the car and immediately unlocked it.

Following this, both kids were brought out of the vehicle and were given water and juice to stabilize their condition. They were then rushed to Ashwini Hospital for medical attention. It was then reported that both kids were fine. However, the kids were then handed over to 1 Town Police Station for further care and follow-up.

Additionally, Traffic Home Guard Jayachandra and PSG Venkatesh, who rescued these kids, filed a negligence complaint against Gangayya. Commenting on the situation, SP V. Harshvardhan Raju highlighted and praised the quick, decisive police action which helped in saving the children's lives.

It was also added that even a brief moment of negligence can turn into a life-threatening situation, as demonstrated in the recently reported incident. Raju has also urged devotees and guardians to stay vigilant when it comes to kids accompanying them.

Why is leaving kids in a car so dangerous?

Although it has been explained above, there are numerous reasons kids should not be left inside a locked car. The first of these reasons is that a parked car can turn into an oven within minutes, even with the windows cracked. Reportedly, in just 20 minutes, the temperature can climb up by 20°C. Now, what makes this situation even worse is that the bodies of kids can heat up 3–5 times faster.

This then makes them vulnerable to heat strokes, organ failure, and even death. You may not think about this, but fatalities under such situations can happen in just 15–20 minutes. Apart from these reasons, kids can also easily get panicked, and this can result in extreme anxiety, panic attacks, sweating, dehydration, and oxygen depletion. So, we would like to request each and every reader to make sure that you never leave a child alone—or even a few children alone—in the car.
