For those who may not be aware, National Lok Adalat is a quicker resolution for all the pending legal disputes, which also include traffic challans. It operates under the supervision of the National Legal Services Authorities (NALSA). National Lok Adalats are organised at intervals in the country to allow for a compromise-based resolution and help people in getting justice quickly.

So, if you are someone who has been issued a traffic challan by the Delhi Traffic Police authorities, you can register for National Lok Adalat and get your challan cut down by 75 percent. All the private and commercial vehicle owners (irrespective of the vehicle's registration state) can get their compoundable offence challans reduced.

Now, you may be wondering which type of challans are eligible for this cut by National Lok Adalat. Well, if you have been issued a challan by Delhi Traffic Police for overspeeding, red light jumping, driving without PUC, tinted windows, wrong side driving, no-entry violations, and pillions without helmets, then you can get your challans reduced by 75 percent or more.

As for the challans which are ineligible for reduction, these include non-compoundable offences such as serious criminal acts, paid challans, disposed or transferred challans, cognizance-declined notices, and notices transferred to digital or evening court.

Over the last National Lok Adalats, many people have reported that their challans were reduced substantially. These include cases such as a ₹24,000 challan for speeding, red light jumping, and tinted film, which was settled for ₹6,000. Another case included ₹40,000 commercial vehicle challans getting reduced to ₹10,000. Also, in one case, a ₹44,000 challan was completely waived off by the judge.

At this time, the judge will understand your case and could waive off the challan by 50–90 percent. The settlement is done immediately, and the payment can be made on the spot.

It has to be noted that per private vehicle, a maximum of 5 notices and two challans (in total 7) can be settled. Meanwhile, in the case of commercial vehicles, only 2 notices/challans can be settled. Also, if you miss the National Lok Adalat on May 10, then you can wait for the next National Lok Adalat.
