India's First Mahindra Thar Roxx Petrol Automatic Modified To Run On CNG: This is IT! [Video]
The country's largest SUV manufacturer, Mahindra Automotive, offers its recently launched Thar ROXX SUV with both petrol and diesel engine options. Now, although the diesel engine option offers slightly better fuel economy, the petrol engine is known for draining out the wallet. To mitigate this issue, recently one Mahindra Thar ROXX owner has got his SUV fitted with an aftermarket CNG kit. Yes, today we present to you India's first Mahindra Thar ROXX with a CNG kit.
This video, showing the complete installation and road test of the Mahindra Thar ROXX with an aftermarket CNG kit, has been shared on YouTube by Best CNG Kits on their channel. It starts with a brand-new Mahindra Thar ROXX entering the shop where this CNG kit installation was about to take place. Soon after this, the cameraman shows the CNG kit which will get fitted to this vehicle.
It is a Europegas CNG kit, which is an international brand, and it is imported for high-end cars with turbo engines. The cameraman shows the CNG reducer, pressure gauge, ECU (Engine Control Unit), and the wiring harness for this kit. Following this, another man shows the position inside the engine bay of this Thar ROXX where the reducer of this vehicle will get fitted.
Moving on, the video shows the fitment of this CNG kit. First, the reducer gets fitted to the right-hand side of the engine bay at an empty spot. Following this, another technician was seen assembling injectors and other gas lines. Lastly, the video shows a person tying up the bunch of wires together to make it look more professional and clutter-free.
Overview of this CNG kit installation in Thar ROXX
Following the installation, the owner of the shop starts showing the fitment of the CNG kit. Before this, he highlights that this particular Europegas CNG kit has been imported and it is compatible with the 2.0-litre petrol motor which comes with the Thar ROXX. He mentions that the installation done on this SUV is very professional.
The host states that they have fitted the reducer and pressure gauge along with the wiring properly so that it does not move or create issues down the line. He then also shows the high-pressure fuel injectors of this CNG kit and also the ECU which comes with the kit.
Moving on, he then shows the CNG filling nozzle, which has been located just beside the fuel tank nozzle in the rear. Additionally, he shows the tanks of this SUV and the rear space which has been left after the installation of this kit. He states that instead of adding one large tank, they have added two CNG tanks which will help in increasing the range of this vehicle.
Driving impressions
Following the installation of the kit, the shop owners took the Thar ROXX with the Europegas CNG kit on a test drive. He mentions that the vehicle does not feel lethargic and makes a decent amount of power. He added that the ride is very smooth. In the video, he has not exactly provided the range or mileage with the CNG kit.
However, he did mention that this will reduce the cost of fuel for the owner by half. As for the pricing, the owner of the shop also did not reveal it. However, the Europegas CNG kit for such vehicles is typically priced in the range of Rs 1.25 lakh to Rs 1.5 lakh.
