Videos of Indian dads gifting motorcycles to their sons can be very satisfying to watch. The most recent of such shows a dad gifting his son a brand new Aprilia RS457.

The video shared on Instagram shows the dad walking his son into what looks like an Aprilia dealership. The two then take delivery of the motorcycle, and the father performs traditional Indian rituals as a silent prayer for his son's protection. The rituals are also seen as a sign of gratitude to nature. As suggested by the video, the motorcycle came as a surprise to the son. He was extremely delighted to receive his new motorcycle.

Another video shows the son turning the motorcycle on, and revving it for the first time. He is excited to listen to the raspy exhaust sound of the RS457, and the smile and reaction are truly priceless.

Aprilia RS 457: A Closer Look At It

Aprilia India launched the RS 457- a faired sports bike, in December 2023. The deliveries began in early 2024. When launched, the RS457 used to compete with the likes of KTM RC390 and Kawasaki Ninja 400. At launch, the ex-showroom price was Rs 4.10 lakh. In 2024, however, the motorcycle received a price hike of Rs 10,000. Currently, the ex-showroom price of Aprilia RS457 is 4.20 lakh rupees.

In its design, the RS457 stands close to the RS660. The design of the distinctive three-pod LED headlight and several other notable highlights would remind you of the RS 660. The motorcycle comes in three colour options, also inspired by Aprilia's championship bikes. On the equipment front, it gets full-LED lighting and a 5-inch colour TFT instrumentation display.

The RS 457 is built around a perimeter frame with a bolt-on subframe. The front suspension gets 41 mm USD front dorks and a rear mono-shock. The front offers 120 mm of travel while the rear has 130 mm on offer. You can adjust the preloads at both ends. Both ends get 17-inch wheels shod with 110/70 (front) and 150/60 (rear) rubber.

The Aprilia RS 457 uses the manufacturer's familiar (and loved) 457 cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine that produces 46.7 bhp at 9,400 rpm and 43.5 Nm of peak torque at 6,700 rpm. This motor features a 270-degree crank and has a DOHC head construction.

The transmission would be a 6-speed unit with slip and assist clutch. A quick shifter is also offered as an add-on. The motorcycle is also equipped with ride-by-wire, three-level traction control and switchable dual-channel ABS. It comes with three selectable riding modes as well. The motorcycle comes with disc brakes at both ends- 320 mm (with a Bybre 4-piston radial calliper) at the front and 220 mm (with a single-piston floating calliper) at the rear.

In the Indian context, RS 457 faces competition from the likes of Yamaha R3, KTM RC 390, BMW G 310 RR, TVS Apache RR 310, Kawasaki Ninja 500.

Rough Waves For RS 457

Of course, the RS 457 has a distinct appeal to it. It is desirable for many. However, the vehicle's run in the domestic market hasn't always been smooth. Many (including major automotive publications) praised the RS 457 post-launch. However, the time that followed, revealed it to have major quality issues. Many owners reported issues including engine failures and compromised grievance redressal by Aprilia dealerships.

Tuono 457, the motorcycle's naked twin, is often seen under the scalpel for the same issues. Time remains before Aprilia resolves the quality and technical issues completely. These, however, have had minimal impact on the demand for these motorcycles. People continue to love the RS 457 and the swag it brings along.
