Famous Indian Comedian Upset After 3 Lakh Bill For Jeep Compass' Injector Failure [Video]
Despite mediocre sales, Jeep continues to be an aspirational brand for many in India. Fans hail them for their rich legacy and how the brand and its products have evolved over the years. Even when Stellantis, Jeep's parent company, is actively working towards refreshing the lineup and expanding market footprint, some customers and proud Jeep owners continue to have rough rides! A recent instance is the standup comedian Gaurav Kapoor, who owns a Jeep Compass, since 2021. The SUV has lately been giving him much trouble that he took to social media explaining his concern.
Before we start detailing the issue, let's tell you moe about the unhappy owner himself. Gaurav has massive following on Instagram. At the time of writing this article, he has more than 1.2 million followers on his verified profile. He creates content mostly related to his stand up comedy performances. Recently, he shared a series of Instagram stories explaining the unfortunate experiences with his Compass. One of them even showed a cost breakdown showing that he had spent more than 3 lakh rupees on parts and repairs alone, in the fourth year!
It should be mentioned at this point that the Compass was his first car (he said so in the 'car buying vlog' that he shared on YouTube.)
Kapoor has had multiple bitter experiences from the SUV in the past and has even done videos on some of them. He mentioned the same in the latest Instagram stories as well, tagging Jeep India's official handle. One of the incidents was when the fuel pump injector failed, in June 2024. Kapoor was on his way to do shows and was in fact, driving from Delhi to Mussourie, when the unfortunate incident happened.
The SUV stalled near Haridwar and Gaurav got in touch with the nearest Jeep service center immediately. He was told that 'the issue' was common in model year (MY) 2021 Compasses! The folks at the service centre further asked him to get the vehicle to the Jeep service center in Dehradoon, driving carefully and stopping for at least 15 minutes, after every 15 minutes of driving!
Another Instagram story talks about how the vehicle's boot started leaking in the rain and the mess it created inside. For some reason, the SUV developed a leak which let rainwater inside, causing it to form a stagnant layer beneath the floor- precisely the space where the spare wheel is kept.
The water influx damaged the automatic tailgate opening mechanism, and the boot now had to be opened and closed manually. Kapoor also says that he was told that a proper replacement/ fix would cost around Rs 80,000! This Compass owner definitely has reasons to be unhappy!
Later in the story series, we get to see an estimate of 'parts and labour costs'. It shows a rounded-off figure of Rs 3,35,671. This includes the costs and taxes of the parts and labour. It remains unclear as to what parts or services are being covered in this. The comedian hasn't revealed the detailed breakdown, at the time when this story was compiled. Since the parts alone cost Rs 2,45,013, there could be some major mechanical replacement.
Jeep India seems to have taken note of the issue ( How can they not when the unhappy customer is a social media celeb?). The manufacturer's official handle has written back to the comedian assuring him that the issue has been escalated to higher authorities and a proper redressal would be delivered soon.
