A lady entrepreneur from Kerala has shelled out a whopping 7.85 lakh for the fancy number of her choice! The expensive plate finds a place on her newly acquired Land Rover Defender 110. Adv Niranjana Naduvathra, a native of Thiruvalla, Kerala, recently bought a brand new Land Rover Defender 110 HSE in Carpathian Grey. She wanted it to have a plate that reads KL 27 M 7777.
India has a transparent system to choose vehicle numbers and to bid for fancy ones. The number in question- 7777, falls under the VIP category, and the bids for this start at 2 lakh rupees. Niranjana took part in the auction and finally bagged the number for 7.85 lakh. Such expensive bids are on the rise in Kerala.
Many including mainstream media are relating this purchase to the previous incident in which actor Prithviraj bought the number of his choice for 7.5 lakh rupees. The actor-director had back then, opted for the number ‘KL 7 CN 1’, which went to his newly purchased Lamborghini Huracan LP 580-2. It was also the first LP 580-2 with KL plates. Niranjana has now surpassed the actor’s purchase, adding another milestone to the Kerala RTO’s log books.
On the professional front, Niranjana is the director of Naduvathra Traders and Earthex ventures pvt. Ltd. The key areas of business for these firms are spread across the quarrying, crushing, and construction landscapes. They are also involved in supplying raw materials to the ongoing national highway construction as well.
Land Rover Defender And Its Increasing Popularity
The Defender is in huge demand today. Public figures, actors, and businessmen- all seem to be fond of it. The SUV is available in three different body styles- 90, 110, and 130. The 90 is the 3-door SWB guise, 110 is the standard wheelbase and the 130 is the long wheelbase version.
A recent revision has made notable changes to the powertrain lineup. The SUV is now available with just two engine options- a 3.0L petrol and a 3.0L diesel. The previous V8 has now been removed from the base variants However, the recently launched Defender OCTA is powered by the mighty 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with mild-hybrid technology.
Currently, Defender prices range from 1.57 Cr for the entry-spec to 2.65 Cr for the OCTA. Niranjana’s Defender costs around 1.78 crores.
Why Is 7777 So Expensive?
Niranjana is not the only one who has attempted a huge bid for the number 7777. Earlier this year, Fairfuture Overseas Education Consultancy MD Dr. S. Raj bought the number ‘KL 7 DC 7777’ for his BMW i7 electric luxury sedan. He paid 7.7 lakh for the same- still less than what Niranjana had to.
That brings us to the question. Why is 7777 so expensive? What is so special about this number? Well, to put things short and sweet, 7 is considered to be good and auspicious, and there are four of them in 7777!
When choosing registration plates for their vehicles, people tend to prefer emotions over logic. Many are ready to spend a lot for the number of their choice. Many believe in car plates being ‘auspicious’ or ‘fortunate’ as well. Public figures also make use of their vehicle number plates to effectively project their identity and boost recognition. The number 7777 seems to tick all these boxes and is thus considered a VIP number. Bid prices start at 2 lakh and one will have to pay an amount of Rs 50,000 to participate in the auction.
