Another day, another crash in which airbags saved the driver! This incident comes from Agra, where an overspeeding Kia Seltos crashed into the Haldiram’s restaurant, late in the night. The restaurant was shattered by the crash that left the onlookers in shock. The driver, however, was saved as the airbags were deployed on time.

The car involved was a pre-facelift Kia Seltos wearing Black paint. The unfortunate incident took place in the Sanjay Place area near Hari Parvat Police Station, UP. At around 1:00 am on September 9th, the SUV was overspeeding when the driver lost control and crashed into the restaurant. Since it was carrying too much momentum, the Seltos went up the stairs and crashed into the door, before coming to a complete halt. This sight was horrifying- say the onlookers.
The damage could be minimised since it was late at night and the place was closed. There were no people (neither customers nor staff) around and the shut door could make the car stop. If it were during the open hours, the mishap would have been much worse. Here, there were no casualties. The Kia driver was reportedly drunk at the time of the crash.
Primary investigations revealed the Kia’s owner name to be Pulkit Mittal and Bag Farzana. However, at the time of the incident, it was being driven by a guy named Gaurav. The restaurant manager has filed a formal complaint regarding the crash, at the Sanjay Place police station.
Airbags To The Rescue!
Post-crash, the driver could walk out with minor injuries, due to the effective deployment of airbags. The Seltos, in its pre-facelift avatar, used to offer up to six airbags on higher variants. We are not sure if the SUV seen here is a top-spec. Both the restaurant entrance and the Seltos took significant damages.
Several other recent crashes have also demonstrated how airbags can be life-savers and why people should make their number and efficiency criteria when choosing a new set of wheels. Recently Tamil actor Jeeva was involved in a crash, when his Toyota Hyryder ran into the median. The actor and his wife could walk away from the debris with minimal injuries, due to the timely deployment of airbags.
Drunk-Driving Is On The Rise!
Driving and crashing out under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances has become common affairs today. Even in the controversial Pune Porsche crash, the teen driving the Taycan was intoxicated. Bills amounting to a total of Rs 48,000 from two nearby pubs were recovered from the crash site. In a bizarre turn of events, the minor involved was punished with an essay!
In another incident, Maharashtra BJP Chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule’s son, Sanket was involved in a hit-and-run in Nagpur where his Audi Q8 luxury SUV rammed into several other vehicles. Post-arrest examination of the driver confirmed him to have been drunk at the time of the accident.
There were three in the Audi, including Sanket- the two others being Arjun Hawre and Ronit Chittamwar. The Q8 first hit a guy named Jitendra Sonkamble’s car. His complaint was filed at 1 am. The Audi then ran into a moped, injuring both of its young occupants. Later in the Mankapur area, a third crash occurred when the Q8 collided with a Volkswagen Polo at a T-point. The Q8 was reportedly on its way back from a beer bar in Dharampeth.
