When it comes to SUVs that were a rage amongst Bollywood stars and sports athletes back in the day, the name of the American SUV maker Hummer comes first to our minds. Today, although there are not many Hummers around, people still love it because of its butch design and street presence. Today, most Bollywood actresses have switched to more comfortable Range Rovers and other luxury cars. However, Krishna Shroff, daughter of legendary actor Jackie Shroff, still drives around in a Hummer H3.
Recently, a video of Krishna Shroff arriving at the Mumbai airport in her Hummer H3 has been shared on YouTube by Cars For You on their channel. In this video, the television star and entrepreneur Krishna Shroff was seen coming out of her modified Hummer H3 luxury SUV. She has been using this vehicle for some time now. However, it has now been wrapped in a stealthy-looking matte black color.
The Hummer H3 was the last internal combustion engine Hummer that was sold across the globe. It was one of the most sought-after SUVs back in the 2000s. Many celebrities, including Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Mika Singh, Sunil Shetty, and Harbhajan Singh, used to own this SUV. Presently, Krishna Shroff is the only actress in Bollywood who owns a Hummer H3.
GMC Hummer H3
GMC, the parent company of Hummer, did not officially sell the Hummer H2 or H3 in India. However, back in the 2000s, many celebrities paid a number of private dealers and importers to get this elite SUV in the country. At the time, the Hummer H3 was being sold for around Rs 70-80 lakh. Even today, after two decades, in the used car markets, the H3 is fetching around Rs 40-60 lakh.
The Hummer H3 was offered globally with two engine options. The first was a 3.7-litre inline 5-cylinder petrol engine. This motor made around 245 PS of power and 328 Nm of torque. It came equipped with a 5-speed manual and an optional 4-speed automatic gearbox. On the other hand, the H3 was also offered with a 5.3-litre V8 petrol engine as well.
It made 305 PS of power and 434 Nm of torque and came equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission. This particular engine was not common in India. The Hummer H3 was also a very capable off-road SUV as it came equipped with massive 32-inch tyres, full-time AWD, and locking differentials.
Hummer EV
The American SUV maker Hummer stopped the production of the H3 back in 2010, after which the brand did not make any new models. However, fast forward to 2021, Hummer became an all-electric SUV brand, and the Hummer EV was launched. Like the old-generation model, the company is not selling the Hummer EV directly in India.
However, it is being privately imported, and its price after all the import duties and road taxes is around Rs 3.85 crore. The new Hummer EV comes in two variants: 2X and 3X. The 2X variant gets a dual-Ultium motor all-wheel-drive setup, which generates a peak power of 625 bhp. The latter makes 830 bhp and 15,592 Nm of torque.
As for the battery capacity, the new Hummer EV comes with a 178 kWh battery pack, which offers a claimed range of 505 km. The 3X variant of this SUV weighs in at 4,500 kg, and despite this weight, it can go from a standstill to 100 kmph in just 3.5 seconds.
