Despite its steep pricing, the recently launched Volkswagen Golf GTI is witnessing good demand in India. The first batch of 150 units were sold out even before the prices were out. Among its takers were famous actors and other public figures as well. Here are five actors from the Malayalam film industry who added this performance hatchback to their respective garages.

Mammootty / 369 Garage

Mammootty is a big name in the Malayalam movie industry. He is also an avid car enthusiast and owns a huge collection of cars and SUVs. Almost all vehicles of his garage has the number '369' on their registration plates, and the collection is often referred to as the '369 garage'.

The actor has purchased the new Golf GTI in the 'Kings Red Metallic' colourway. It is unclear if he has taken delivery or not. We do know that he bought the car from Phoenix Volkswagen, Thrissur. Back when Volkswagen launched the Polo GTI in India, Mammootty had bought it as well. He was spotted driving it on many occasions. We don't know if the car is still with him or not.

Joju George

Joju George is another actor from the Malayalam industry, known for his works in movies like Joseph, Antony, Retro and Thug Life. The last two were recent releases in which he was seen alongside big names from the Tamil industry. Joju is known for his love for fast cars and butch SUVs and has a tasteful collection. He has now purchased a Golf GTI as well. We are told that the actor is yet to take delivery of the vehicle.

Actor and film producer Jayasurya has also added a Golf to his garage. He has bought the vehicle in the Oryx White Mother of Pearl Effect colourway. He was, in fact, the first one in Kerala to receive the keys to the car. The delivery video was later shared online. He came with his family to take the car home from Pheonix Volkswagen, Thrissur.

Madhav Suresh

Madhav is the son of actor-turned-politician Suresh Gopi. He chose Moonstone Grey as the preferred colour for his Golf. He made the purchase from EVM Volkswagen, Kochi, and was later spotted driving it. Interestingly, this is the second Golf GTI in the BJP MP's family, as his son-in-law has also bought one.

Fahadh Faasil

Fahadh isn't just another South Indian star. Though noted for his roles in films like Thondi Muthalum Driksakshiyum, Aavesham, Kumbalangi Nights, Maheshinte Prathikaaram, Amen, Trance and Malik, he has to his credit notable roles in movies like Vikram, Super Deluxe, and the first two instalments in the Pushpa franchise.

He too has taken delivery of the new Golf GTI from EVM Volkswagen. His car wears the Grenadilla Black Metallic paint. Images of it getting delivered to him have surfaced online. The actor seems to be quite excited about his new hot hatch.

An interesting observation here is that all four colours of the Golf GTI have already reached Mollywood garages.

Kerala Loves The New GTI!

Kerala has remained an important market for Volkswagen. The response towards the Golf GTI has been overwhelming. A dealer even commenced a milestone delivery event in which 25 brand-new Golf GTIs reached their owners. Rumour has it that 50 of the 150 allotted units are destined for Kerala.

With the first batch sold out, Volkswagen is sure to keep a close eye on future demand. Historically, hot hatches like the GTI have sold well initially but the demand soon slows down- specifically after the first few batches. Considering the South Indian state's love for Volkswagen AG (VAG) cars and performance at large, things could be different with the Golf.
