Dealer inventories are piling up at stockyards, and the pressure to clear stock is high as the great Indian festive season has commenced. While the Alto K10 and S-Presso continue to be popular among years, year-on-year sales are down by a about 13 %, and this is reflective of the overall sales slowdown that the entire industry is witnessing currently.

Prices of the Alto K10 have been reduced marginally, by Rs. 6,500 for the top-end VXi trim. Maruti Alto K10 prices range between Rs. 3.99 lakh and Rs. 5.8 lakh. As for the S-Presso, the entire variant line up gets a marginal price drop of Rs. 2,000. Prices of the S-Presso start from Rs. 4.26 lakh, and go up to Rs. 5.95 lakh. On whether these minor price corrections actually drives up sales is something that we’ll have to wait and watch for.

Both cars get the 1 liter-3  cylinder K-Series petrol engine with 66 Bhp-89 Nm on tap while running on petrol. Optional petrol-CNG versions are also available with this engine, on both the Alto K10 and S-Presso. While a 5 speed manual gearbox is standard, both cars also get a 5 speed automated manual transmission (AMT) as an option. The Alto K10 and S-Presso are among the most affordable cars sold by Maruti Suzuki in India, and are aimed primarily at first-time and price sensitive buyers.

Who is the Alto K10 For?

Everyone who wants a no-nonsense city hatchback at a very competitive price tag. The Alto K10 is also quite sprightly on the highway thanks to its light weight. A lot of buyers come from hilly regions as well given the car’s compact dimensions, light weight and peppy acceleration.

Who is the S-Presso for?

Everyone who want everything that the Alto K10 offers but with higher ground clearance, a higher seating position and a micro SUV stance. The S-Presso offers a ground clearance of 180 mm, and along with its short wheelbase of 2,380 mm, is very adept at taking on bad roads, and even mild off road conditions.

Typical Maruti strengths shine through both hatchbacks…

Reliability is one big reason why India loves Maruti Suzuki cars, and both the Alto K10 and S-Presso are extremely reliable cars designed to offer years and years of fuss free performance. Fuel efficiency, another trait that most entry level car buyers are very concerned with, is another area of excellence on both cars. While the Alto K10 manages an ARAI certified 24.9 Kmpl as its best mileage, the S-Presso goes one step further with a stunning 25.3 Kmpl ARAI certified fuel efficiency number.

And they even received a safety boost recently

Apart from twin airbags, ABS, reverse parking sensors, seat belt alert and speed alerts, the Alto K10 and S-Presso now offer ESP as standard across all trims. ESP stands for electronic stability program, and is now an essential safety feature that’s mainly meant to enhance stability and prevent loss of control on slippery road surfaces.

The ESP system on the Alto K10 and S-Presso utilizes existing safety hardware on the cars – namely ABS and EBD – while integrating new software – Traction Control and Stability Control. Together, the sensors of the hardware, and software continuously monitor the vehicle’s movement, and send the inputs to the ECU. When there’s slippage detected in the vehicle’s movement, power is cut to one or more wheels and brakes are applied if necessary, helping the driver regain control.
