New Renault Duster vs German Autobahn: Youtuber Puts SUV To Test [Video]

Duster on Autobahn

Renault unveiled the next-generation Dacia Duster internationally. The Duster has been a popular SUV in the Indian market, and Renault is all set to bring the SUV back to our market. The SUV has already gone on sale in many European countries, and we have started seeing videos of it online. Here, we have a video where a YouTuber who got his hands on the AWD version of the Dacia Duster drove and tested the SUV on the German Autobahn.

The video has been shared by Autogefühl on their YouTube channel. In this video, the YouTuber reviews the new Dacia Duster and drives the SUV on Germany’s Autobahn. For those who are not aware of what the Autobahn is, we’ll explain. The Autobahn is a highway system in Germany that has no speed limit for vehicles of certain classes.

This means people who own cars can test them at high speeds and push them to the limits. The YouTuber starts by doing a quick walkaround of the Duster SUV. He talks about the design, rugged-looking boxy elements of the SUV. It does look like an SUV, but it is not a premium SUV by any means.

It misses out on several premium features, and it also comes with hard plastics on several touchpoints. Coming to the Autobahn test, the vlogger talks about the engine first. He is driving the 1.2-litre, three-cylinder, 130 Bhp, MHEV petrol engine. This engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. This is the only engine option that offers AWD with the Duster.

Other than this, Renault is also offering a 1.6-litre hybrid and 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine with the Duster. The YouTuber starts driving the SUV on the Autobahn, and he immediately realizes that this is not a car suitable for the Autobahn. He can be heard saying that it is not a quick car by any means and that no one likes to drive a slow car on the Autobahn.

The suspension felt very soft, and the steering is also very light. The video says that the SUV is designed in such a manner that it feels more suitable for off-road use than on the road. The Duster is an SUV, and that has its own drawbacks. As the speeds rise, the wind noise starts to filter into the cabin. The wind noise is very evident in the video.

The other thing he noticed while driving the SUV on the highway was that the bonnet on the vehicle was vibrating slightly due to crosswinds. However, he did not feel any stress while changing lanes.

The video mentions that the seats are pretty comfortable for long rides, but as a customer, he would have preferred fabric or denim-like seat covers over the easy-to-clean ones on the higher versions.

He mentions that this car is more suitable for city and off-road use than on the Autobahn. It is definitely a suitable car for highways, but not for the Autobahn. He touched the top speed of the Duster, which is 180 km/h. He keeps on saying that it is a fun-to-drive SUV with a very comfortable suspension setup. He also mentions that the hybrid version of the Duster felt slightly more sluggish.
