Social media is a major part of our lives, and we scroll through hundreds of videos on our mobile screens every day. Besides watching videos online, there are people who have taken this as a full-time job and are extensively working towards increasing their engagement and improving quality. Most of those who remain consistent with their content eventually become successful on these social media platforms.
PR Sundar is one such influencer who started his career as a school teacher and later became a very popular name in India’s stock market world. He owns a Rolls Royce Phantom in Dubai and brought the same car to Chennai.
The video has been shared by Behindwoods O2 on their YouTube channel. The video presenter has a casual conversation with Mr. PR Sundar. In this video, Mr. Sundar talks about his experience with the car and how he brought the car to India, specifically to Chennai.
In most cases, a person who owns an expensive car like a Rolls Royce is often seen enjoying the ride from the rear seat. However, PR Sundar is an exception here. In this video, we see him driving the Rolls Royce through Chennai’s roads. Not only does he drive it, but he also lets the anchor drive the multi-crore Phantom in the video.
Since Sundar is settled in Chennai, he bought the car in Dubai. He noticed that several car owners from Kerala ship their vehicles to Kerala via Carnet and drive them in their hometowns. Inspired by this trend, he decided to do the same. He wanted to ship the car to Chennai, but there was a small problem.
When he spoke to the authorities in Chennai, he didn’t get a positive response. This was because not many people had done something like this in Chennai, and the officers were not aware of the process. He then got in touch with an agent who was familiar with the formalities. The agent resolved the confusion. While the formalities were being completed in India, the Rolls Royce Phantom was lying inside a shipping container at the port in Dubai.
Mr. Sundar refused to ship the car until all the formalities were taken care of. The Phantom, as mentioned above, came via Carnet, which is a temporary passport for goods. Using Carnet, a person can import a car to India without paying import taxes and duties on that particular vehicle. The car is usually imported for a period of 6 to 12 months, which is why it is exempted from import taxes and duties.
Sundar talks about the difference in the price of his Phantom in India and Dubai. He spent around Rs 6-7 crore in Dubai to buy this car, while in India, it would have cost around Rs 14 crore. Since he is settled in Dubai, he found that he could save a lot and also fulfill his wish of driving a Rolls Royce in Chennai by buying the car in Dubai. In fact, he only had to spend around Rs 7-8 lakh to get the car shipped to India, including all other fees and formalities.
The main reason he brought this car to Chennai was for his son’s marriage. He mentions that he’ll be using the car in Chennai for 6 months and then taking it back. PR Sundar mentions that he comes from a humble background where he couldn’t have imagined buying a luxury car like this. He also brought this car to Chennai to honor his late father.
